SUMMARY OF POSITION

The Area Coordinators are responsible for supporting the student experience within the residential community, working with 30 student staff members and essential housing operations processes and procedures. The Area Coordinators serve on the professional staff team for the Department of Residence Life (“the Department”) and report to the Director of Residence Life and Dean of Students. Responsibilities include understanding and stewardship of the residents, staff, and physical facilities of their assigned area. They must possess excellent decision-making, organization, and leadership skills.
The Area Coordinators are to be active campus and community leaders for students. This is a full-time (12-month), exempt, live-in position. Normal hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Friday; however, hours will vary widely to include working evenings and weekends, contingent on activities and events and serving on the on-call rotation.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/ NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Residence Life (Staff Training) (45%)
Develop training and onboarding plan for all residence life staff in all housing processes and residence life procedures
Facilitate in-service training and ongoing training initiatives
Promote a safe and secure living environment, respond to student concerns, crises, and emergencies, and work collaboratively with various campus and community partners on education and response to emergencies or crimes.
Assist in the opening and closing of the residence halls and direct student staff during each period
Coordinate staff processes for early arrival and late stay rosters, break housing, room condition reporting, and key management
Assist staff in following up on residents of concern, emergency, interpersonal conflict, and crises that pertain to residents.
Serve as the on-call professional staff on campus in the on-call rotation
Handle critical residential issues, including conflict mediation, facilities issues, and disciplinary problems; refer students to appropriate resources.
Supervise residence hall desk assistant and work study staff, scheduling and time approvals
Aid staff in responding to and documenting violations
Residence Life (Housing Operations) (45%)
Utilize housing occupancy software (Jenzabar) to assist in student room assignments and to maintain reports and data related to that process.
Prepare weekly and monthly statistical reports, including a monthly occupancy report
Work with housing occupancy software (Jenzabar) developers and on-campus support to maintain the software and implement annual upgrades.
Assist in the yearly cycle of university housing, room inspections, furniture audits, and inventory
Assist the other Area Coordinator with auditing each resident to ensure they have completed and signed the necessary documents to secure and maintain on-campus housing by coordinating with the residence hall staff.
Ensure that appropriate charges are applied to each student’s account promptly.
Collaborate with the Director in establishing policies and procedures for new student housing assignments and facilitate implementation
Coordinate and develop website and social media content for residence life
Generalist Responsibilities (10%)
Participate actively as a member of the University to uphold all policies and service expectations
Participate in the University emergency on-call rotation, attend weekly “huddle” meetings to review on-call responses, identify students of concern, and develop response plan
Serve as a departmental representative to campus-wide activities and programs and provide supervision when necessary
Serve on University committees and planning teams to best serve students (such as the Converse Cares Team, strategic committees, etc.)
Utilize Jenzabar modules to advance the work of the University, with specific responsibility for maintaining housing and judicial records
Assist with the implementation of events that enhance the University community
Continually work to identify ways to enhance, grow, and revise strategies that foster students’ academic, personal, and professional success
All other duties as needed to ensure the success of students and the University
Compensation
Annual salary

Termination of employment results in termination of salary as of the last date of employment and a discontinuation of all compensation/benefits

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

A highly successful candidate will have a bachelor’s degree, with a master’s degree preferred, in higher education or related fields and show an aptitude for communicating effectively in a professional manner with a diverse population of students, faculty, and administrators. They must have the ability to multi-task and respond effectively in high-stress situations or crises. Preference will be provided for candidates with a demonstrated knowledge of the environment of a small, residential liberal arts campus, an understanding of the cyclical process of university housing, and a willingness to commit to the mission and goals of Converse University.
