The Surgery Scheduler works under the supervision of the OR Supervisor to perform all surgical scheduling procedures for the Center. In accordance with the Mission and Vision of Urology Surgery Center, personnel provide services in an atmosphere sensitive to each person’s physical, emotional and social needs with respect to the beliefs and values of co-workers, patients and their families. REQUIREMENTS

Demonstrates competency upon hire in performing all related job tasks/functions. Demonstrates cooperative work attitude toward and with co-employees, management, patients, visitors and physicians. Working knowledge and comfort with computer use. Cross-trains in other Center areas to serve as staff team member. Maintains regular attendance.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Answers all incoming calls into the unit in a timely, professional and courteous manner. Directs calls as necessary, answers inquiries as appropriate and takes and delivers messages when required. Handles incoming mail and faxed documents. Orders office supplies as needed, using PAR levels. Displays a courteous, understanding and sympathetic attitude toward patients, visitors and physicians. Assists in maintaining computer, printer and other administrative equipment. Adheres to an exemplary code of ethics at all times. Maintains proficiency in Windows 98, Microsoft Office, and Computerized Scheduling System. Adheres to Center policies and procedures. Actively supports and participates in a team environment. Displays accountability and responsibility for the performance of assigned functions. Maintains Business Office areas in a clean and orderly manner. Attends required in-service education, meetings and participates in committees as requested. Maintains patient confidentiality. Participates in Center-sponsored community events/marketing activities as requested. Performs other duties as assigned. Demonstrates understanding of personal responsibility and activities related to the OSHA programs including hazardous materials and blood borne pathogens. Directly responsible for identifying and reporting adverse or dangerous situations without fear of reprisal.

JOB KNOWLEDGE

Knowledge of Center billing, registration and discharge policies and procedures of Medical. Heavy experience in insurance and benefits. Knowledge of Center departments/services and operational relationships and goals. Skill in defining problems, collecting data, interpreting billing information. Skill in computer applications. Ability to perform mathematical computations and compute ratios and percentages. Ability to work pleasantly.

QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or GED certification. Previous experience in healthcare setting, such as Surgical Practice or Ambulatory Surgery setting. Strong familiarity with surgical procedures and related diagnoses Excellent typist (50-60 words per minute). USC has an excellent benefits package!
