Job Summary:

The Shipping Clerk is responsible for inspecting and verifying incoming goods against purchase orders (POs), invoices, or other documentation, recording shortages, and rejecting damaged goods. The role also includes unpacking, coding, and routing goods to appropriate areas. This position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Inspection and Verification:

Inspect and verify the quantity and quality of incoming goods against purchase orders, invoices, or other documents. Record any shortages, discrepancies, or damages in the received goods. Reject and document damaged goods, communicating issues to suppliers or relevant departments.

Unpacking and Coding:

Unpack received goods and ensure they are in good condition. Code goods according to company standards and enter relevant information into the inventory management system. Label items with appropriate identification tags or barcodes.

Routing and Distribution:

Route goods to their designated areas within the warehouse or facility. Ensure that goods are stored in the correct locations and that inventory is organized and easily accessible. Coordinate with other departments to ensure timely distribution of goods.

Documentation and Reporting:

Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all received goods, including quantities, conditions, and any discrepancies. Complete and file necessary documentation for inventory and accounting purposes. Prepare and distribute reports on received goods and any issues encountered.

Inventory Management:

Assist in maintaining accurate inventory levels by conducting regular counts and reconciliations. Report any inventory discrepancies to the supervisor or inventory control team. Help implement and maintain efficient inventory management practices.

Safety and Compliance:

Adhere to all safety guidelines and protocols to ensure a safe working environment. Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required. Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures, as well as relevant regulations.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent. Previous experience in shipping, receiving, or a related field is preferred. Strong attention to detail and ability to verify quantities and quality of goods. Proficient in using inventory management systems and basic computer applications. Excellent organizational and time-management skills. Good communication skills and ability to work in a team environment. Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting, standing for extended periods, and handling goods.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Prolonged periods of standing, bending, and reaching. Ability to operate warehouse equipment such as forklifts and pallet jacks (certification preferred).
