ABOUT THE POSITION

The Shipping & Receiving Associate should have a working knowledge of forklifts, hoists, slings, hand tools, tape measures, drills, and grinders (portable & bench). The associate must maintain a good work ethic and maintain an environment built on teamwork, continuous improvement, safety, communication, customer service/satisfaction, and organization. Key Deliverables Inspect and verify incoming goods against invoices or other documents. Organize distribution and shipping merchandise. Operate forklift, hand truck, or other equipment to load, unload, transport, and store inventory. Maintain internal record keeping systems. Prepare and package product for both domestic and international shipping. Identify product prior to storage based on internal processes. Key Activities & Responsibilities Maintain level of work performance in accordance with Astec Quality Control Standards and/or job order specifications. Comply with OSHA Safety and Health rules. Load/Unload freight trucks and trailers using the safest and most effective method. Inspect incoming freight for potential damage. Complete and organize incoming/outgoing shipping documents and packing lists. Ensure that correct materials are received or shipped. Correctly tag/label product. Store and organize materials at assigned areas. Pick/Pull items to prepare for shipment. Pack product effectively to ensure safe transport and no damage to product. Schedule freight pickups, utilizing the fastest and most cost-effective method for Astec and customers. Perform or assist in other assigned duties as qualified. Maintain work area and keep it free of excessive debris, such as wooden pallets and cardboard boxes. Area is to be swept, and debris discarded at end of each shift. To be successful in this role, your experience and competencies are: Minimum high school diploma or equivalent. Position requires 0-2 years of experience, preferably in the manufacturing field. Able to multi-task with demonstrated excellence in organization and time management skills. Must be adaptable to changing priorities. Perform work standing on concrete up to 12 hours a day. Must be able to work in various positions including squatting, bending, and reaching. Ability to push/pull/lift up to 60 lbs (limit could vary depending on primary work assignment). Perform work in heavy industrial setting involving congestion, with exposure to industrial fumes, smoke, dust, and noise.

Office While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to risk of injury in an office environment and occasionally a manufacturing shop plant environment. Duties include a typical office setting, including extensive computer work, sitting, or standing. Manufacturing Environment The shop manufacturing environment includes exposure to moving mechanical parts, machinery, tools and equipment, vibration, fumes or airborne particles, motorized vehicles, welding and machining operations, outside weather conditions, and exposure to the risk of electric shock. The employee may occasionally be exposed to varying levels of dirt, dust, toxic or caustic chemicals, and very warm and chilly temperatures. The noise level in the shop can be very loud at times, consistent with an industrial assembly facility and may require hearing protection.
