About the Job The Hub Shipping is responsible for providing strong leadership and supervising the day to day shipping and receiving functions assigned to the Transportation Department. Under the supervision of the Transportation Manager, this position is responsible for shipping, receiving, packing, inventory management and the transportation carrier scheduling in a safe and efficient manner. This includes planning, directing and coordinating all activities within the department including work force, training and facilitating the movement of product into and out of the distribution center while maintaining high standards with respect to safety, productivity, quality and on-time delivery. This position is instrumental in meeting and exceeding customer’s expectations, while continuously identifying opportunities to streamline the workflow and gain efficiencies. What You’ll Do | Key Accountabilities The primary accountabilities and responsibilities of the Shipping Manager will consist of but are not limited to the following: Supervision & Leadership Plan, organize and direct the work of staff in receiving, warehousing and shipping operations to meet customer requirements Review orders, schedules and other information to determine work sequence and material shipping dates, type, volume and destination Organize and manage day-to-day operations to ensure shipments are dispatched and picked up by carriers for on-time order fulfillment Determine manpower needed in the department according to volume levels Lead and motivate the workforce in a positive manner and effectively handle employee relations including, but not limited to, training, counseling, discipline and conflict resolution Foster positive employee morale, enhance productivity and a fair and equitable work environment in compliance with Company policies Communicate effectively with all employees regarding both routine and exceptional issues including safety, quality, procedures, job performance and training Coordinate and communicate departmental needs with other departments Supervise staff to ensure that all packages are labeled accurately to proper destinations Ensure that all product ships from the DC without discrepancies or packaging problems Supervise the receiving and location of material into the system to ensure accurate inventory records and efficient retrieval Enhance productivity levels through process-improvement as well as through people-development Shipping Review shipping notices, bills of lading, invoices, orders and other documentation to determine shipping priorities, work assignment and shipping methods required to meet shipping and receiving schedules Ensure correct shipment of orders Manage the shipping process by creating deliveries for all shipments to appropriate locations or other shipping sites Oversee incoming and outgoing shipping activities to ensure accuracy, completeness and condition of shipments Contact carriers to schedule pick-ups times and arrange scheduled pick-up times Maintain shipping goals by coordinating staff, equipment and customer demand Prepare management reports as needed Maintain inventory of shipping materials and supplies Implement effective inventory control procedures to ensure the availability of materials Monitor Drivers Logs to ensure compliance according to DOT regulations Safety Train employees to practice safe and efficient work techniques to minimize potential injuries and hazardous conditions Participate and conduct safety meetings and inspections in a timely manner Maintain equipment in good working order Ensure that material areas are kept neat and orderly Lead by example to ensure that employees always maintain acceptable levels of housekeeping with regard to equipment and their assigned work area and/or department Ensure that employees always wear the appropriate safety attire and protective equipment Ensure all employees are trained on proper shipping procedures and usage of RF hand-held scanners Monitor the shipping operations to make sure it is run in an efficient manner Quality Ensure that all quality protocols and procedures are followed Evaluate and review quality performance in accordance with established guidelines, adjust to changes in the organization, evaluate training requirements and initiate appropriate and timely corrective actions Communicate with other departments to address and solve problems with packaging, weight discrepancies, labeling issues and any other problem that affects the smooth flow of materials Conduct shipping audits on a regular basis to ensure pick list instructions are met, shipments are prepared correctly, and shipping issues are minimized What You’ll Bring | Skills & Experience High School or Equivalent required Must possess minimum 3 years of warehousing and shipping supervisory experience preferably in a fast-paced, high volume distribution center environment Must be “hands-on” with strong leadership and managerial skills Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel and Outlook and the ability to learn proprietary programs Excellent communication (verbally and written) with all levels of the organization and able to build effective relationships with others Highly motivated and high initiative in providing proactive efforts to resolve discrepancies with a high sense of urgency to meet deadlines Proven experience working with all levels of employees and management and ability to garner the loyalty and trust of direct reports Ability to motivate, encourage, and lead a team-oriented environment Must have a “can-do” attitude with a sense of urgency and dedication to the success of the overall business mission Effective time management, conflict management and negotiation skills Solid attention to detail volume of work, staffing shortages, etc.) Previous experience in the use of warehouse technology equipment and material handling equipment Work Environment, Physical & Mental Demands Able to sit and remain alert while driving for a period of at least 10 hours Shift manual transmission with use of foot pedals Drive 15 ft. – 26 ft. automatic transmission box trucks with a capacity of at least 26,000 GVW Reach above shoulder, at waist level and below waist level to maneuver and direct controls to operate truck Squat or crouch to handle or position freight Enter and exit vehicle cab minimum of 8-10 times per day. Entry and exit will be achieved with the assistance of various steps, footholds, and handholds.
