Position Overview The Depot Manager is responsible for overseeing daily operations, ensuring adherence to company policies/procedures, and maintaining the highest standards of safety, productivity, and quality within the depot. This individual will lead all team members, manage facility maintenance, implement safety programs, and ensure the smooth execution of logistics and inventory management functions. The Depot Manager will also serve as the key point of contact for all operational concerns and lead improvements to streamline processes and enhance depot performance. Responsibilities
- Oversee daily depot operations, ensuring efficient workflow, meeting production goals, and maintaining safety standards
- Lead, motivate, and coach a diverse team, including forklift operators, warehouse staff, and maintenance personnel
- Ensure that all operations meet or exceed quality standards for both inbound and outbound shipments
- Supervise and optimize processes related to container washing, door swaps, scanning operations, and outbound loading
- Enforce all OSHA regulations and internal safety policies, ensuring full compliance across all activities
- Oversee the completion of required safety audits and reports, implementing corrective actions as necessary
- Work closely with the EHS Coordinator to address workplace hazards, manage risk assessments, and provide necessary safety training
- Ensure that all employees wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow safety protocols
- Ensure emergency preparedness, including CPR and first aid certifications, and other safety training programs
- Provide clear direction to the team, ensuring that all personnel understand their roles and responsibilities
- Create and implement team performance metrics, track progress, and offer coaching to improve individual and team productivity
- Conduct performance evaluations and recommend career development opportunities for team members
- Foster a collaborative and positive team culture to drive high levels of employee engagement and accountability
- Manage the tracking, maintenance, and proper use of warehouse equipment (forklifts, pressure washers, etc.)
- Oversee the inventory of tools, PPE, and consumables, ensuring availability and proper stock levels
- Collaborate with the Maintenance and Warehouse teams to schedule and execute preventive maintenance on equipment
- Address any issues related to damaged or faulty equipment in a timely manner to minimize downtime
- Lead process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and promote Lean Manufacturing principles
- Implement and maintain Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to track and drive operational performance
- Review and evaluate workflows regularly, identifying opportunities for optimization and cost-saving measures
- Prepare and submit regular performance and safety reports to senior management
- Communicate operational updates, challenges, and successes to stakeholders
- Manage incident reports, ensuring corrective actions are implemented and documented
- Maintain positive relationships with customers, ensuring timely and accurate order fulfillment
- Work with external vendors to coordinate supply of materials, equipment, and services Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of experience in depot or warehouse management
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or related field preferred
- OSHA 30-hour certification, Forklift Instructor Certification, CPR Certified
- Experience with Lean Manufacturing (5S, kaizen, visual management)
- NCCER Safety Certification – Preferred
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Experience with warehouse systems (WMS), Transporeon, and Microsoft Office tools
- Must maintain a valid and up-to-date forklift operator’s license Additional Requirements This role operates under a strict zero-tolerance policy for workplace violence and drug use.
Candidates must be dependable, policy-driven, and capable of enforcing standards in a respectful but firm manner. Availability for on-call work or emergencies may be required.
