Position Overview:
The Scrap Yard Operations Manager will oversee day-to-day yard operations including personnel, safety, inventory, and production targets. This role requires a hands-on leader who is as comfortable running equipment as they are reviewing production reports. You will work directly with ownership to implement strategic improvements and maintain a high-performance operation.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and supervise yard personnel including scale operators, equipment operators, and laborers. Manage inbound and outbound material flow, ensuring accurate grading and scale procedures Maintain compliance with OSHA and environmental regulations Track and report daily/weekly production, material yields, and downtime Enforce company policies and safety procedures with accountability Support purchasing and sales teams by maintaining real-time inventory visibility Identify bottlenecks and drive operational improvements and cost savings Communicate with maintenance personnel on equipment issues
Qualifications:
2+ years experience in scrap/recycling operations or related heavy industrial management Strong leadership skills with a no-nonsense approach to safety, productivity, and teamwork Working knowledge of metals grading, material handling, and recycling processes Mechanical aptitude and familiarity with heavy equipment maintenance Comfortable with spreadsheets, inventory systems, and reporting
