The role of a Circulation Manager supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processes employee concerns and problems, directs work, coordinates daily work activities; counsels, disciplines, and completes employee performance appraisals; conducts interviews and makes hiring recommendations; trains new staff and/or volunteers on the duties at the circulation desk and customer service. Administers all functions of the circulation services department, including using Integrated Library System registering patrons, modifying patron records, replacement of lost cards, check out, discharge and renewal of library materials, interlibrary loans, charging patrons for damaged and lost materials, accepting fines and fees, and taking payments for library materials. Supervises and assists in the circulation of library materials, including new patron registration, modifying patron records, reserving books, processing incoming and over-due library materials, and the shelving of library materials, responsible for the circulation of interlibrary loan materials. Develop, plan, and implement goals and objectives related to circulation services. Prepares staff schedules, ensures adequate coverage for circulation operations; approves timesheets, leave requests, switch schedule requests for library attendants. Coordinate, conduct, or attend staff meetings to review department plans, progress, and other activities; coordinate or conduct special projects as needed. Perform customer service functions in person, by telephone, and by mail: provide information/assistance regarding library services, procedures, fees, or other issues; respond to routine questions or complaints; research and investigate problems and complaints and initiate conflict resolution. Monitor patron activities in the library, investigate problem returns and mediate patrons’ concerns; Ensure patron privacy rights are maintained by staff. This position does require occasional evenings and weekends. Minimum Requirements Here is what you need to be considered for the position of
Circulation Manager :
- A Degree from an accredited college with major course work in Library Science or a related field;
- Supplemented by three (3) years previous experience and/or training in office management, office administration, customer service, record management, personal computer operations, and area of assignment; OR
- Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
- MS Word & Excel Proficiency
- Requires a valid motor vehicle operator’s license.
