POSITION SUMMARY
The Transportation & Logistics Manager, Student Services oversees the coordination, management, and optimization of transportation services for all students, Including those with special needs, homeless students, and field trips. This role ensures that students are transported safely, efficiently, and in compliance with district policies, state laws, and federal regulations. The position involves overseeing transportation routes, coordinating field trip logistics, managing a team of drivers, and maintaining communication with various departments within the district to ensure seamless transportation operations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Manage the team of routing and planning specialists responsible for creating, updating, and optimizing school bus routes to ensure safety, efficiency, and compliance with APS policies and regulations. Review and approve all routing plans, considering factors such as student needs, distance, traffic conditions, and special accommodation (e.g., special education students). Ensure that McKinney-Vento routing requirements for homeless students are met in compliance with federal guidelines, providing efficient transportation to ensure equal access to education. Manage field trip staff and processes, including bus scheduling, trip planning, and ensuring safe and efficient travel. Hold district-wide meetings to communicate training opportunities and process changes to departments and school staff. Review field trip schedule for accuracy and completeness, and ensure SOP’s are current and accurate. Coordinate with schools and departments to ensure field trips are planned in compliance with district policies and are conducted in a timely manner. Oversee the collection, analysis, and reporting of transportation data, including bus performance, route efficiency, fuel usage, and student ridership. Collect and analyze data to generate reports on transportation efficiency and costs. Create regular reports for district leadership, including operational efficiency, and performance metrics. Serve as the primary point of contact for parents, school administrators, and staff regarding routing, field trip and McKinney Vento issues and inquiries. Coordinate with other departments (special education, student services, and school administration) to ensure transportation needs for students with special requirements are met. Maintain positive working relationships with external transportation providers, if applicable, and monitor service delivery. Supervise a team of transportation professionals support staff, to ensure they meet district expectations for safety, professionalism, and customer service. Conduct regular training sessions on procedures, district policies, and best practices in student transportation. Monitor performance and conduct evaluations, providing constructive feedback and guidance to improve service delivery. Provide guidance, training, and professional development opportunities to ensure the team is up to date with best practices, industry trends, and regulatory changes. Required to have prompt, regular attendance in-person or virtually and be available to work on-site, in-person during regular business hours, and as needed. Performs other duties as assigned by an appropriate administrator or their representative.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and generate reports to inform decision-making. Strong knowledge of transportation best-practices for K-12 student transportation. Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS EDUCATION
Bachelor’s Degree in Transportation Management, Logistics, Public Administration, or a related field required or 5 years of progressively responsible experience preferred.
CERTIFICATION/LICENSE
Any relevant certifications in transportation management, logistics, or systems management preferred.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Minimum of 3 years of experience in transportation management, logistics, or student services within an educational or public sector setting required. Experience in K-12 school transportation management, including the transportation of students with special needs, is highly preferred. A minimum of 2 years of supervisory or leadership experience in a transportation-related role preferred. Experience with McKinney-Vento transportation requirements and routing preferred.

Additional Work Conditions & Physical Abilities:
Will require travel to multiple sites. Extended hours may be required depending on each situation. Must understand and have full knowledge of the occupational hazards in using power tools and equipment and of necessary safety precautions. Requires extensive safety training and/or protective devices.
