This position is part of the Marmon Rail Division and will be assigned to a repair shop location either at Union Tank Car Company or Transco Railway Products, Inc. – North America locations, or Procor, at one of their Canadian locations. This position will report to the Materials Manager.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Lineside Materials Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day material requirements of the shop including running repairs, conversion, project work, shipment tracking, realizing inventory trends, material receipts, and identifying ways to maintain consistency in material quality and stocking levels. The position will coordinate all activities in the Materials Department when the Materials Manager is absent. As such, it is a critical position and should be considered a natural and desired succession into the Materials Manager position.
Primary responsibilities and/or essential functions include, but are not limited to:
Functional/Technical Expertise
Ensures that material is sourced, received, and delivered in a scheduled manner to meet the shop’s production requirements and maximize inventory turns, and ensures standard materials are available.
Maintains accurate and current record keeping.
Ensures inventory levels are sufficient to meet production schedules.
Actively manages the shop’s stock replenishment system to ensure material is available to support production without overstocking. Includes maintenance of minimum and maximum stock levels, as well as reorder points, to reflect changes in production.
Continuously reviews the inventory or on-hand parts using 80/20 principles and railcar specialization to reduce the total number of SKUs on hand.
Actively maintains site kitting processes as established and directed by the Materials Manager.
Establishes and maintains site line side delivery processes
Stages and maintains material for line side delivery.
Performs regular cycle counting of material as required by Cost Accounting routinely to support record accuracy. Assists the Materials Manager to establish cycle counts of key, high usage items to maintain record accuracy.
Assists with the annual physical inventory process.
Maintains a well-organized and high-quality system of material storage and labeling.
Creates bills of lading as required to support any outbound shipments.
Develops and maintains excellent working relationships with the Materials team, in addition to key supervisors and shop staff.
Supervises Material Handlers, providing them with instructions, training and performance feedback such that they can handle any basic departmental task.
Participates in and actively supports quality projects, activities, and Responsible Care initiatives to ensure that the Company achieves its goals.
SKILLS/SPECIFICATIONS
Committed to operating within a safety centric environment which includes working safely and acting when unsafe practices/conditions are identified within the plant.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Detail oriented with excellent organization and time management skills.
Proven ability to successfully manage multiple projects and tasks.
Knowledge of basic mathematical operations and calculations.
Familiarity with consignment inventory, receiving and quality best practices.
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications particularly with Excel.
Ability to wear safety equipment such as, but not limited to safety shoes, safety glasses, hard hats, ear plugs and respirators.
Ability to see and hear the visual and audio safety warnings in the plant.
Ability to bend, stoop and stretch to perform tasks.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or equivalent required. College degree preferred.
Minimum of 3 – 5 years of supply chain experience preferred.
Rail car experience preferred.
Current APICS Certificate or willing to obtain.
Previous supervisory experience in a plant environment is a plus.
