Position Summary:
Special Olympics Louisiana is seeking a highly motivated and organized individual to join our team as the Coach Education and Competition Logistics Manager . This critical role will be responsible for the development, implementation, and oversight of our coach education programs, ensuring that our coaches are well-trained and equipped to provide high-quality sports experiences for our athletes. Additionally, this position will play a key role in the logistical planning and execution of our state and area-level competitions, ensuring smooth and successful events for all participants.
Key Responsibilities:
Coach Education & Development:
Develop, manage, and implement comprehensive coach education programs, including in-person workshops, online modules, and resource materials. Ensure all coach training aligns with Special Olympics International (SOI) and SOLA standards and best practices. Recruit, train, and support a network of coach trainers and mentors. Track and maintain coach certification records, ensuring compliance with all requirements. Provide ongoing communication and support to coaches, addressing their needs and fostering a strong coaching community. Promote and facilitate opportunities for coaches to advance their skills and knowledge, including sport-specific training and leadership development.
Competition Logistics & Operations:
Collaborate with the Director of Sports and regional managers to plan, organize, and execute all aspects of state and regional-level qualifier competitions. Manage competition logistics, including venue selection, equipment procurement, volunteer coordination, and scheduling. Develop and disseminate competition-related information and materials to coaches, athletes, and volunteers. Lead the recruitment, training, and on-site management of general day-of-event volunteers for all state competitions, ensuring adequate support and clear roles. Oversee coach registration processes for competitions, ensuring accuracy and efficiency. Coordinate with local programs and Local Club leaders to ensure effective communication and support for competition participation. Ensure adherence to all Special Olympics rules, regulations, and safety protocols during competitions. Manage post-competition evaluations and data collection to identify areas for improvement.
General Duties:
Maintain accurate records and databases related to coach education and competition participation. Collaborate with other SOLA staff to support overall organizational goals and initiatives. Represent Special Olympics Louisiana at various events and meetings as needed. Assist with other duties as assigned by the Director of Sports or CEO.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management, Education, Non-Profit Management, or a related field. Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in program management, event planning, or coach development, preferably within a sports or non-profit setting. Strong understanding of Special Olympics mission, values, and program structure. Demonstrated experience in developing and delivering training programs. Excellent organizational, planning, and time management skills with strong attention to detail. Exceptional organizational, project management, and logistical skills with meticulous attention to detail. Exceptional communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and experience with database management systems. Ability to travel frequently throughout Louisiana and occasionally nationally. Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation. Passion for working with individuals with intellectual disabilities and a commitment to inclusion.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience as a Special Olympics coach or volunteer. Knowledge of sports rules and regulations for various Olympic-type sports.
