Director of Operations

OVERVIEW

Performs various tasks involved in the manufacture of medical devices. The operator will be trained in and will follow written procedures for any work to be performed. Job performance will be evaluated based upon predetermined criteria for quality of work and productivity, as well as attendance, adherence to company policies and procedures, standards of conduct, and safety record. Create and maintain a positive work environment through continuous communication and participation in common goals, while striving to improve our products and services to meet or exceed our customer’s expectations. Use good judgment where decisions are required in the performance of assigned tasks. Develop and prepare production schedules to meet company customer service, production, and inventory objectives. This includes but is not limited to: Provide timely manufacturing schedules and coordinate with all departments. Generate production orders based on schedule. Include all information required by manufacturing. Generate experiments. Include customer requirements and coordinate prints with QA and manufacturing. Forward experiments to Project Manager. Monitor daily production in order to maintain schedule accuracy. Conduct daily production review meeting. Maintain lead times, minimum order quantities, purchase order size and line selection which determine how manufacturing responds to customer demand. Coordinate staging of orders and label generation with supervisors and warehouse technician. Manage Inventories to meet customer demand and company financial objectives. This includes but is not limited to: Identify slow moving or obsolete inventory on a quarterly basis. Assure materials are on hand to support the production schedule. Assure Accurate BOM’s and routings. Maintain methods to insure accurate inventory levels. Organize and direct the annual inventory. Maintain all of the materials information in the Sage system. Monitor inventory levels for opportunities to reduce inventories and more efficiently purchase materials. Adjust Inventories as required. Report monthly on adjustments. Issue monthly materials activity report Purchase production and non-production materials to support all plant activities. This includes but is not limited to: Negotiate terms and pricing. Main Contact for all suppliers. Coordinate with vendors. Plan incoming shipments to support requirements. Negotiate the best possible rates. Process requisitions and issue Purchase Orders. Initiate qualification of new vendors Maintain purchasing files to include contracts and pricing history etc. Develop performance measures for each vendor. Assist with supplier audits. Monitor and report quarterly on key vendor performance. Maintain an accurate MRP System Coordinate material returns to vendor. Forecast material prices and report on budget performance. This includes but isn’t limited to: Keep abreast of major commodity pricing in the marketplace to better forecast material prices. Keep pricing current in Sage to facilitate budgeting process. Establish annual material standards. Serve as the key customer contact and assure all customer delivery dates and requirements are met. This includes but is not limited to: Receive PO’s and send acknowledgement of PO and ship date. Coordinate ship dates with Manufacturing Coordinate shipping of finished product Work with customers on short- and long-range forecasts Maintain positive relationships with all customers. Generate annual sales forecast and report progress against monthly. Assist QA with customer complaints and concerns. Provide directions to the Warehouse Technician to ensure proper warehouse function and compliance with all GMP’s and company policies and procedures. Perform or oversee other administrative duties as required.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required. Associate degree preferred. Although not a requirement, previous experience in medical device manufacturing is desirable. A minimum of five to seven years of production planning and purchasing in a manufacturing environment is required. Aptitude for computer systems and applications a must. Must be detail oriented and demonstrate analytical capabilities.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Strong verbal and written communication skills are necessary due to extensive contact with customers and vendors.

Require experience with:

Group Presentations Training Techniques Computer Literate Able to communicate effectively on varying technical levels.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. Able to develop spreadsheets using planning and purchasing formulas.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral and diagram form.

Must be capable of:

Analyzing various types of data in different formats. Independently solving common business problems which occur frequently. Sound decision making Understanding the structure of technically detailed planning and capacity analysis.
