Qualifications:
At least one of the following qualifications is required: Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university with a relevant major or High school diploma or equivalent and five (5) years of relevant experience with progressive increase in responsibility Ability to read maps and plan routes; knowledge of geographic area Minimum of five (5) years school district transportation operations experience Computer skills and knowledge of software applications Oral and written communication skills Knowledge of federal and state laws regarding I.D.E.A., Americans Disability Act (ADA) and Exceptional Student Education (ESE) Confidentiality and strict adherence to Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) Successfully complete a minimum of eight (8) hours of in-service training related to the operator’s responsibilities for transporting students, which may include training hours from the required certified CPR and first aid training, pursuant to subparagraph 6A3.0121(2)(b)3., F.A.C. Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with appropriate “P” & “S” endorsements to operate a school bus within six (6) months of employment (or ability to obtain within six (6) months of meeting FDOT licensing requirements)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Associates degree or equivalent verifiable management/supervisory experience Experience in a supervisory position •Such alternatives to the above preferred qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Schedules and assigns drivers, substitute-drivers, and attendants to cover absences and extracurricular trips. 2. Assigns and manages spare buses to replace regularly assigned buses that are temporarily out-of-service. 3. Uses transportation-specific technology and software to gather all data and assist drivers and attendants with timeliness, safe operation, and efficiency. 4. Determines student stop assignments, new student assignments, and student route changes based on all relevant information. 5. Communicates with internal and external stakeholders regarding all student transportation matters. 6. Informs, guides, corrects and/or evaluates drivers and attendants. 7. Verifies driver completion of required forms and documents necessary to comply with transportation department requirements, board policy, and state mandates. 8. Cover the hours and duties required to complete transportation routes. 9. Approves leave requests for drivers and attendants. 10. Coordinates with the vehicle maintenance department to ensure all required inspection schedules are completed in a timely fashion, while at the same time ensuring enough buses are available to complete assigned work. 11. Coordinates extra trips as necessary. 12. Oversees compliance with all relevant rules, regulations, statutes, and policies. 13. Drives a school bus route as needed. 14. Performs other job-related functions as assigned.
