Role:

The Fleet Manager oversees the daily operations of the Vehicle Maintenance Department for Martin County Transit. This hands-on leadership position ensures our fleet is maintained to the highest safety and performance standards. From managing staff to maintaining compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations, you’ll play a vital role in keeping public transit running smoothly.

Key Responsibilities:

Supervise, coordinate, and evaluate maintenance staff and operations. Act as lead mechanic, overseeing and performing preventive maintenance and repairs. Maintain a safe, clean, and organized maintenance facility. Track inventory of fuel, supplies, and vehicle parts; manage vendor relationships. Ensure timely vehicle change-outs, replacements, and road call responses. Sign off on maintenance work orders and generate required reports. Oversee vehicle and bus shelter condition and ensure operational readiness. Manage transit asset management software and support compliance audits. Respond to emergencies or adverse weather situations as needed.

What You Bring:
Experience:

At least 5 years working with diesel and heavy-duty vehicles, including 2 years in a supervisory or lead mechanic role.

Knowledge:

Comprehensive understanding of fleet maintenance, safety practices, and transit systems.

Skills:

Strong leadership, troubleshooting, inventory control, and computer proficiency.

Physical Ability:

Able to lift up to 50 lbs, bend, stoop, kneel, and work in varied environments.

Communication:

Effective written and verbal communication in English.

Education & Certifications:

High School Diploma or GED required. Valid Florida CDL (Class B) with Passenger Endorsement. Valid DOT Medical Certification. ASE Transit Bus Technician Certification (required). ASE Preventive Maintenance Technician Certification (or obtain within 6 months). Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) Certification (or obtain within 6 months).
