Sarasota County Public Works is seeking a dedicated professional to lead our Traffic Operations team. You’ll oversee field crews for routine and emergency maintenance, manage operating budgets, develop long-term strategic plans, implement performance measures, and set service standards for signals and signs. Prepare and manage the operating budget for Traffic Operations.
Prepare strategic plans for long-term performance and achievement goals.
Provide oversight for daily activities and functions of assigned work crews.
Review and monitor safety equipment and correct safety procedures.
Assign work crews to emergency operations.
Provide management oversight for training and development of staff on utilization of equipment and operations.
Ensure compliance with county, state and OSHA regulations; coordinates use of external resources/vendors.
Coordinate and ensure appropriate supply of work materials; tracks and maintains store inventories.
Participate in hiring of staff, performance reviews, and disciplinary actions.
Participate in staffing and business planning efforts.
Review engineering plans for traffic signals, signs, and pavement markings.
Prepare contracts for services related to Traffic Operations and Maintenance.
Inspect and approve for payment invoices sent by contractor.
Interface with other units/core services, county and municipal officials and the public.
Ensure that corrective actions and writes up reports for Risk Management for asset reimbursement for accidents are prepared and submitted.
Respond to internal and external requests or concerns over installation, repair, removal, or maintenance of all traffic control related apparatus.
Assists with ADA related walkability issues resolution and current ADA interpretations.

About You Minimum Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Construction, Engineering, Business Administration, Finance or in a related field AND four (4) years of job-related experience.

  • OR•Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university AND six (6) years of job-related experience.
  • OR•Professional-related experience may substitute for the required degree on a year-for-year basis.

Two (2) years or more of supervisory experience in the related field.
A valid Florida Driver’s License at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

Advanced Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) certification.
Familiarity with MAXIMO and Cartegraph work order management systems.
Experience overseeing contractual service providers. Subject to

This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening. An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment for a period of five (5) years.

About Everything Else Starting Pay Range:

$75,233.60
