Class Title
The Supervisor, Public Works serves as the principal assistant to the Chief Supervisor, Public Works and assists in an implements approved work, training and safety programs.
Duties
1. Schedules and assigns work to subordinate employees of crews. 2. Observes work in progress and directs or recommends corrective actions. Interprets policies and procedures to subordinates. 3. Screens applications, Interviews job applicants, recommends new hires, promotions. pay raises and other personnel actions.
4. May prepare reports such as time reports, work progress and disposition of materials using a fleet management or other specific program. 5. Assist with budget estimates and assists in controlling the expenditure of approved funds. Initiate request for tools and equipment. 6. Handles inquiries and complaints from members of the public.
7. Serves as the city liaison with vendors.
8. Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Minimum Qualifications
1. High school graduate or GED the equivalent required. Bachelor’s Degree in a related field from an accredited college or university, or 4 years in work experience is preferred.
2. Demonstrated leadership qualities and ability to perform assigned tasks.
3. Basic computer skills required, preferably in warehouse management systems. Ability to plan initiate, and execute programs; ability to interpret and apply approved policies and procedures; verbal facility; tact and diplomacy; and ability to promote teamwork among subordinates.
4. Customer service skills.
5. Hold or be able to obtain the specific class certificate that is required depending on assigned division.
6. Five (5) years of experience in the following areas, when the supervisor is for that area:
c) Traffic Engineering Division
- Electronics, traffic signals, computer operations and maintenance, work zone traffic control.
pavement markings, traffic sign installation and maintenance, street light installation and maintenance, parking regulations. Hold a current and valid Driver’s License.
Physical Requirements:
1. Position requires moderate to extensive stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions, along with some combination of climbing and balancing.
2. Position requires abilities to consistently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, 50 pounds frequently and 100 pounds occasionally.
Work Environment:
1. Work is performed outdoors and/or indoors with exposure to noise, dirt, grease, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, fumes, animals, insects, chemicals, storm water, ditches, right of ways, inclement weather. 2. Operates machinery with moving parts requiring use of protective devices and computer screens.
Travel:
Extensive travel will be required locally from location to location to accomplish job assignments and visit job sites.
