INTERNAL

POSTING-Only temporary or permanent NCDOT employees or layoff candidates with the NC Department of Transportation eligible for RIF priority reemployment consideration as described by GS 126 May . This position will report to Division 13, Traffic Services Unit. This position must be dependable and have a strong working knowledge of all Traffic Services operations and procedures, including the installation of long line paint, thermoplastic special pavement markings and sign installation. This position will be expected to access NCDOT computer programs such as SAP, and MMS daily and will be required to enter data into these programs on a regular basis. This position will be responsible for ordering materials, keeping a working database of materials, charging out materials for daily activities of Traffic Services and for any inventory audits. This position must have the ability to inspect contract work while being knowledgeable and helpful to fluidly accomplish the goals of Traffic Services. This position must be familiar with RMIP and will be responsible for planning RMIP work and must help entering/updating the RMIP plan. This position must have the ability to implement a traffic control plan to block multi-lane highways and/or interstates using a team of employees for planned and unplanned (emergency) work. This position will take an active role in training new team members in Traffic Services and will be responsible for leading the daily activities of other coworkers in the absence of Transportation Supervisor I. This position must be able to communicate in a professional manner with others including supervision as well as the public by email and telephone. Work will require exposure to all types of weather conditions such as ice, snow, difficult terrain, dust, extreme heat and cold, high volumes of traffic and heavy construction equipment. Work requires the ability to work on uneven surfaces and slopes. This position is subject to emergency callback and scheduled night work during adverse weather or other circumstances. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies Applicants must submit an application that clearly reflects work experience that demonstrates the following: Knowledge of Intermediate Work Zone Safety and NCDOT Workplace Safety policy and practices
Experience in one of the following: long line pavement marking installation, traffic sign installation or thermoplastic special pavement marking installation.
Experience in the operation of at least 2 pieces of the following equipment: Forklift, Sign Truck, Paint Machine, Thermoplastic Pavement Marking Truck
Experience performing manual and physical labor in varied environmental conditions.
Experience in planning, scheduling and carrying out work assignments effectively with minimal supervision.

Additional Expectations:

Safety toe shoes required. The selected candidate must be able to legally operate CDL required equipment/trucks with both manual and automatic transmissions at the time of hire or within 360 days of hire date. Either possession of a current Commercial Driver’s License with Tanker (N) endorsement on the date of hire, OR the North Carolina Commercial Driver’s License must be obtained through completion of on-the-job training and all requirements mandated by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (Federal Registry 49 CFR 383) within 360 days of the date of hire.
