TEMPORARY

Summer position, starting in mid-June and running through mid-August. It is an on-site hourly position (20-30 hours per week) and is responsible for executing transportation pick-ups and drop offs routes for TOSS Summer Camp. The Old School Studio (TOSS) is a program of (TIC), a nonprofit in rural North Carolina dedicated to building an equitable working class by supporting frontline workers through employee-owned social enterprises and cooperatives. TOSS promotes and enhances TIC’s mission through art education, creating public art, and building a resilient creative community. Primary Function:

The primary function of the Transportation Coordinator is to safely transport campers to and from the TOSS location for scheduled activities. The driver ensures all transportation is conducted in a timely, efficient, and safety-compliant manner. They are also responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and basic upkeep of the vehicle.

Essential Functions:

Driving and Maintenance:

Work with the TOSS Studio Manager to schedule student pick-ups and drop-offs to and from designated locations. Perform pick up routes in a timely and safe manner, arriving at all destinations at the designated times. Follow all local, state, and programmatic regulations and laws, maintaining a high level of safety practices. Work closely with the Studio Manager to evaluate and document all routes, maintenance checklists, and safety checklists. Assist the TOSS team with material prep and supply order pick ups as needed.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

Must be at least 21 years of age. Valid North Carolina Driver’s License. Clean driving record with no major traffic violations in the past two years. Previous experience transporting children in a camp or school setting is preferred. Familiarity with local roads, routes, and safe detour options is preferred. General understanding of child safety protocols and emergency procedures (training provided). CPR and First Aid certification preferred but not required. Basic knowledge of vehicle maintenance (e.g., checking oil, tire pressure). Good communication and interpersonal skills, especially with children and staff. The ability to stay calm in high-pressure situations and remain flexible to problem-solve. Reliable, punctual, and well-organized with strong time management skills. Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred but not required.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

Ability to occasionally lift 15 lbs-50 lbs. Ability to sit for extended periods while operating a motor vehicle. Must be able to move about various environments, including TOSS Studio and offices, to access supplies and communicate with staff and camp participants. Ability to observe details and maintain systems in place. Ability to transport supplies to event sites and travel long distances. Ability to organize and move camp-related materials as needed. Must be able to reach/access products on high shelves. Position scheduled to start in mid-June. Salary is $20-22 per hour, depending on experience.
