$50,633.00•$88,607.00 Internal Posting•Only Temporary or Permanent North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) employees in a permanent full-time, permanent part-time, probationary, trainee, or time-limited position or a layoff candidate with the NC Department of Transportation eligible for RIF priority reemployment consideration as described by General Statute (GS) 126 (State Personnel Act) may apply. This position will supervise the work of the Division Traffic Services Sign Crew, Sign Erector Crew, and Sign Fabricator to ensure signs are properly installed and fabricated according to the current MUTCD standards. Duties typically performed include planning, organizing, and supervision of the Division 14 signing activities. Meets with, investigates, and answers complaints from the public. Responsible for MMS data entry. Maintains records, time sheets, job reports, supervises, counsels, and disciplines employees. Responsible for reviewing reports, records and data entry of sign inventory submitted by the Sign Crews. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies Applicants must submit an application that clearly reflects work experience that demonstrates the following: Experience planning work and supervising a work crew
Experience in record keeping, such as tracking employee and equipment time and recording quantities of materials used
Experience in the installation and maintenance of traffic control safety devices which includes, highway signs, pavement markings, traffic signal systems, and intelligent transportation systems (ITS) devices
Experience in Advanced Work Zone Safety and NCDOT Workplace Safety Policy and Practices
Experience operating a sign truck with attachments and medium dump truck

Additional Expectations:

The selected candidate must be able to legally operate CDL required equipment/trucks with both manual and automatic transmissions at the time of hire or within 360 days of hire. Either possession of a current Commercial Driver’s License on the date of hire, OR the North Carolina Commercial Driver’s License must be obtained through completion of on-the-job training and all requirements mandated by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (Federal Registry 49 CFR 383) within 360 days of hire. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Some state job postings say you can qualify by an “equivalent combination of education and experience.” If that language appears below, then you may qualify through EITHER years of education OR years of directly related experience, OR a combination of both. High school or General Educational Development diploma and six years of directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and directly related experience. Experience must be related to functional area of the work that the position will supervise.
