$139,396 (Grade D – 636 hay points) Responsibilities
Due to the increasing levels of bus service provided this position has been created to direct all transportation functions in a depot or Road Operations on an off tour. Accountable for ensuring the safe/reliable provision of bus service while being assigned to a depot or Road Operations. In a depot, will be responsible for monitoring Bus Operators (B/O’s) performance and defining/maintaining increased levels of productivity. Ensure the availability/quality of B/O’s. Carry out effective availability programs, utilizing appropriate disciplinary methods and coordinate with Training to ensure B/O’s are consistently trained/re-trained/19A qualified. On the road, will be responsible for customer service delivery and bus performance throughout a borough. Research and develop responses to passengers, community, or agency inquiries. Address service problems and recommend short/long term solutions.
Additional duties and responsibilities On an off tour, direct the safe and reliable provision of bus transportation service either in a depot or on the road. Monitor Bus Operator performance and/or preparedness. Ensure service is being met.
Assist in directing labor relations activities for assigned staff including discipline, availability, and assessment of training needs.
Assist in the research and develop responses to passenger, community or agency-based inquiries and provide a full range of public relations services and outreach programs related to transportation operations.
Depot and road operations will coordinate the following: bus equipment and personnel replacement activities; assessments of Bus Operator performance/patterns; reinforcement of training or discipline; evaluation of accident charges and implementation of reduction and safety programs; attend Community Board meetings.
Assist in the provision of overall policy direction and enforcement of safety guidelines for Bus Operator. Investigate road/equipment/depot safety hazards and other potential safety problems. Education and Experience 1. Seven (7) years of related experience, at least three (3) years of which must have been in a supervisory/managerial capacity.
2. Must have one (1) year of previous experience in the title of Superintendent or an equivalent title; or 3. A satisfactory equivalent of the combined education and experience requirements. Desired Skills
Extensive depot/division transportation operations experience or administrative experience in an operating environment.
Strong communication and negotiation skills.
Experience in the management of a large, multi-location, multi-faceted line-based organization with the ability to implement executive policies and procedures.
Knowledge of Buses’ rules, regulations, and union contracts.
