DESCRIPTION OF WORK
In this critical position, you will oversee the technical personnel responsible for the operation of the Western Regional Transportation Management Center and the Freeway Surveillance and Control System. Your role includes managing shift operators in a continuous 24/7 environment, as well as assisting in the development and refinement of standard operating procedures and protocols for the center. You will occasionally participate in various Statewide Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) committees to support ITS initiatives as needed. Additionally, you will supervise the contractor for the Freeway Service Patrol Program by establishing contract specifications, reviewing contractor operations, and addressing any issues that arise. Coordination with the Pennsylvania State Police will also be part of your responsibilities, particularly in dispatching Freeway Service Patrol Vehicles to address incidents during operational hours. Furthermore, you will oversee the daily management of the Pittsburgh High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lane, utilizing CCTV and automated systems to ensure proper operation. Your duties will also include updating the Incident Management and TMC Databases and providing reports to supervisors and internal stakeholders, as well as conducting and reviewing engineering studies related to congestion and capacity on freeways and expressways. Telework:
You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, upon successful completion of probationary period. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Bridgeville.
Salary:
Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $51,971 (before taxes). REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
One year of experience as a Regional Traffic Management Center Operator (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
Two years of experience evaluating and coordinating information related to traffic data, incidents or conditions.
