Posting is for one Transportation Supervisor I position located in Cumberland Traffic Services. The position will supervise and direct the signing operations in Robeson County and all Interstate Routes within the Division. Position will plan and coordinate the installation of new signs, maintain signing inventory, implement work zone traffic control for routine or emergency closures, oversee inventory of signing materials, monitor expenditures, maintain work and inventory records, investigate public complaints, ensure equipment is maintained and serviced, coordinate activities with other work units, train and counsel employees, conduct performance reviews, and assist with interviewing prospective employees. Position is subject to responding to emergency situations after normal work hours and on weekends. Work may include special assignments outside of normal working hours. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies Experience in planning work and supervising a work crew.
Experience in the installation and maintenance of traffic control safety devices which includes, highway signs, pavement markings, traffic signal systems and intelligent transportation systems (ITS) devices
Knowledge in Advance Work Zone Safety and NCDOT Workplace Safety practices
Experience in record keeping, such as tracking employee and equipment time and recording quantities of materials used
Experience in reading and interpreting manuals to gather information for solving problems.

Additional Expectations:

Skilled in the use of computer equipment and software such as Microsoft Office, SAP, and MMS. Employee in this position will be expected to climb, bend, traverse steep and uneven terrain, and work in extreme temperature conditions. The selected candidate must be able to legally operate Class B CDL required equipment/trucks with both manual and automatic transmissions and have a Tanker (N) endorsement at the time of hire or within 360 days of hire date. Either possession of a current Commercial Driver’s License on the date of hire, OR the North Carolina Class B Commercial Driver’s License must be obtained through completion of on-the-job training and all requirements mandated by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (Federal Registry 49 CFR 383) within 360 days of the date of hire. Safety toe footwear required. Offer of employment will be contingent upon successful completion of NCDOT post offer employment evaluation.
