Transportation Fleet Manager 4.2 4.2 out of 5 stars North Charleston, SC 29418 Job Overview We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Transportation Fleet Manager to oversee and enhance developing, implementing, and managing health and safety policies and procedures in the workplace, managing repairs on equipment, and provide high-level administrative support and coordination for safety and maintenance program activities. Become a training resource of safety policies and procedures. Coordinate safety and maintenance projects, meetings, and monitor participation and results. Act as a liaison between, operating teams, drivers, and management. Assist in driver recruiting and retention. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Transportation and Logistics Safety and Driver Management, ensuring compliance with OSHA regulations and other safety standards. Developing and implementing workplace safety policies and procedures in accordance with OSHA standards.
Duties Developing and Overseeing Maintenance Programs:
Overseeing preventative maintenance schedules to minimize breakdowns and extend the lifespan of vehicles. Analyze pre- and post-trip inspection checklists to catch minor issues early.
Scheduling and Coordinating Repairs:
Monitor vehicle maintenance records, schedule timely inspections and repairs, and ensure work is completed efficiently and to a high standard. Managing Relationships with
Vendors:
Develop relationships with the Penske repair shop and other vendors like Elite Towing and Duesterhaus Body Shop to secure quality service at competitive prices.
Spare Parts and Inventory Management:
Manage the procurement and inventory of necessary supplies, to include but not limited to wire and bolt cutters, zip-ties, etc.
Ensuring Vehicle Readiness:
Ensure that vehicles are safe, reliable, available for operational needs, with minimal downtime.
Vehicle Acquisition and Disposal:
Research and recommend the best vehicle types, at lease end of older vehicles then aid in the procurement process (possibly including negotiation, financing, and registration), and develop strategies for the disposal of vehicles at the end of their useful life.
Budgeting and Cost Control:
Prepare and manage the fleet maintenance budget, track expenses related to maintenance and repairs and identify opportunities to reduce costs and improve efficiency.
Regulatory Compliance:
Ensure the fleet complies with all federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., FMCSA, IFTA).
Record Keeping and Reporting:
Maintain detailed records of vehicle maintenance, inspections, repairs, and regulatory compliance. Prepare reports on fleet maintenance activities and costs for upper management.
Technology Implementation:
Use fleet management software, telematics systems, and other technologies to streamline maintenance processes, track vehicle health, and analyze data.
Fuel Management:
Implement strategies to optimize fuel consumption, monitoring fuel costs, and potentially negotiating fuel contracts.
