Job Summary:
The Transportation Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of freight movement and transportation logistics to ensure safe, timely, and cost-effective delivery of goods for Hollywood Feed. This role will supervise a team of drivers, coordinate inbound and outbound freight schedules, ensure Department of Transportation (DOT) compliance, and support continuous improvement efforts across transportation activities.
Transportation Supervisor Key Responsibilities:
Supervise daily operations of transportation activities including routing, scheduling, driver assignments, inspections, and freight tracking. Ensure all transportation operations comply with DOT regulations, company safety policies, and state/federal transportation laws. Monitor driver performance and address safety, attendance, and service concerns through coaching and corrective action as needed. Collaborate with warehouse, customer service, and logistics teams to ensure efficient order fulfillment and on-time delivery. Review and analyze transportation reports including route efficiency, fuel usage, freight claims, and delivery timeliness. Assist in carrier negotiations and vendor management to maintain optimal freight costs and service levels. Maintain accurate records for vehicle inspections, driver logs, and incident reports. Lead transportation-related projects including new technology rollouts, cost reduction initiatives, and service optimization. Provide coverage and support for dispatch or driver scheduling when necessary.
Ensure the schedule is built and posted each week. Make sure all drivers understand their assignments, reschedule deliveries as needed. Assign drivers to deliveries needing covered due to call offs or PTO. Work with common carrier to ensure deliveries are on time and meet Hollywood Feed Standards. Ensure maintenance work orders are being completed. Ensure defects are being completed and all Geotab systems are working. Communicate any delays or reroutes to appropriate parties. (Store Managers, Regional Managers, etc). Ensure that outbound transportation operates according to Hollywood Feed standards when changes are made due to PTO or Call Offs. Other duties as required and/or assigned.
Requirements Skills & Qualifications:
Ability to understand logistics principles and practices to effectively plan, coordinate, and optimize transportation operations. Exceptional leadership skills to train and develop team members while maintaining high standards of customer service. Proficient in managing order schedules, processing orders efficiently, and ensuring time delivery. Strong working knowledge of DOT regulations, ELD systems, and routing software. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with TMS (Transportation Management Systems) preferred. Familiarity with loss prevention strategies to minimize the risk of theft, damage, or loss during transportation. Expertise in handling, storing, and transporting dangerous goods safely. Ability to work flexible hours including weekends or holidays based on business needs.
Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, or related field preferred. 3+ years of experience in transportation, logistics, or supply chain management, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or lead role.
Physical Requirements:
Modest physical exertion such as lifting, pushing, pulling, or carrying work-relates supplies and equipment. Routine balancing, bending, crouching, kneeling, crawling, and stooping.
