GIS Full Job Description SUMMARY:
Performs heavy manual labor and operates any required mechanical equipment used by Field Services Teams. Supervises two or more employees. Exercises good judgment based upon a thorough understanding of the operation of the collection and distribution system. Communicates both verbally and in writing with Field Services Supervisor and customers. Oversees operation of all Truck equipment and trains workers in safe equipment operations. Maintains accurate daily logs and work orders of all work performed and utilizes computer programs. Directs workers in operations such as rodding, excavation, digging, dipping, pumping, punching, cleaning, boring machines Jack hammer, tamp and pipe saw and backhoe. Responsible for upkeep and preventative maintenance of all mechanical equipment used by Team. Performs other functions and responsibilities as assigned. Attend all seminars and training given by Columbus Water Works. Employee will be required to perform on-call duties on a rotating schedule.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
include, but are not limited to the following: Prepare for daily assignments by supervising the loading of assigned truck with all necessary materials, supplies, and equipment. Receives job assignments and organizes schedule to minimize worker hour requirements for completion of each job assignment. Inspects work areas to determine type of work required and materials and equipment to be used. Directs workers in operations such as rodding, excavation, digging, dipping, pumping, punching and cleaning. Oversees operation of all Truck equipment and trains workers in safe equipment operations. Recommend measures to improve operations, equipment performance, and quality of service. Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assist workers in solving work problems. Maintains accurate daily logs and work orders of all work performed and uses computer programs. Must be able to use the GIS system to locate CWW infrastructure and provide feedback to GIS department on inaccuracies. Confers with supervisor to coordinate activities of the Team. Supervises the cleaning and washing of vehicles and equipment as needed. Supervises unloading, set up at job sites and operating of all specific equipment used in Team operations such as Rodding Machines, Tapping Machines, Borings Machine and all other essential tools and equipment. Exhibits ability to perform heavy manual labor. Exhibits ability to perform Confined Space Entry procedure as needed. Exhibits ability to understand and implement traffic safety procedures.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBLITIES
Supervises two or more employees. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this unit. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Through knowledge of the principals and practices of water distribution and/or wastewater collection and construction as applied to a water utility. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
High School diploma or GED required. Possession of a valid drivers license and a good driving record is required. Ability to obtain a Commercial Drivers Permit within three months of employment and Commercial Drivers License (CDL) within six months of employment required. Must have a minimum of five years experience in construction. Six months of supervisory experience preferred. Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within one year preferred. Possession of a valid driver’s license and a good driving record is required. Ability to perform heavy manual labor required. Must obtain certification in Confined Space Entry, Trench Excavation, CPR and First Aid Standard. Wastewater Collection or Water Distribution within one year of employment required.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and MSDS material. Extensive written and oral communication.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to draw and read all graphs types.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply commonsense to carryout instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to remain calm in stressful situations. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
