The employee in this position will be responsible for the overall supervision of the Division Fourteen Incident Management Assistance Patrol (IMAP) program. This will include supervising the IMAP drivers while patrolling designated routes and providing support responding to traffic incidents that may require traffic control deployment and/or the removal of disabled vehicles from the travel lanes. This position will be required to communicate using various radio systems, schedule the duties and safety training for all IMAP drivers, conduct daily tailgate safety meetings in accordance with our Operational Risk Management (ORM) program, ensure the IMAP drivers are maintaining low incident response/clearance times while following all policies and safety related guidelines, verify that equipment and fleet management are properly maintained, attend meetings, and ensure proper usage of radio traffic by IMAP personnel. This position is responsible for purchasing and maintaining adequate inventory of IMAP related materials, supplies, radio equipment, and uniforms. This position will be on call 24/7 and will need to be prepared to respond to and supervise any incidents when needed. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies Applicants must submit an application that clearly reflects work experience that demonstrates the following: Knowledge of roadway maintenance operations and NCDOT workplace safety policy and Knowledge of Incident Command, and basic work zone safety.
Demonstrated ability to communicate with the public, first responders, and staff in order to maintain a positive working relationship.
Demonstrated ability to supervise staff including scheduling, tracking training, motivating, and counseling subordinates.
Demonstrated knowledge of policies and laws regarding incident management, including NCDOT’s CMS policy & Quick Clearance Law.
Additional Expectations:
This position requires the compliance with supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the safety program; experience in incident management; supervisory experience; the ability to work well with law enforcement and other emergency response agencies; working knowledge of traffic control devices; experience in minor mechanical repairs; the ability to perform manual tasks, which may include lifting heavy objects; the ability to lift 50 pounds including but not limited to a 2 ton floor jack for changing tires on disabled vehicles, the ability to work outside for extended periods in variable weather conditions on possibly uneven terrain, the capability to use computer programs including, but not limited to, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook; the ability to complete paperwork and develop clear reports; and the ability to follow written and oral instructions. Position is required to have a valid Class A North Carolina Commercial Driver’s License. Safety toe shoes are required within 30 days of employment.
