Crew Lead/Foreman 4.3 4.3 out of 5 stars 89 Whiting Hill Rd, Wilton, NH 03086 Department of Public Works Lead Foreman Job Summary The purpose of this position is to assist the Public Works Director in supervising personnel, the safety of public ways, and overseeing work in progress. The work involves directing, providing for and performing all types highway and property maintenance and repair work ranging from landscaping and plants to major street reconstruction and other heavy construction. This includes identifying, preparing and implementing maintenance, construction and reconstruction schedules and projects, recommending street improvements to reduce overall maintenance and repair costs, providing instruction to subordinates regarding proper work methods, and undertaking appropriate corrective actions as warranted. Responsible for the skilled and safe operation of and routine preventative maintenance of assigned heavy and light duty trucks. Performs other public works department duties, which may be temporarily assigned to include but not necessarily limited to vacation and absence stand-in for the Public Works Director. Will be required to directly deal with the public in a supervisory manner solving concerns. Supervision Received Works directly under, and very closely with, the Public Works Director (who assigns area of responsibility, gives daily assignments, outlines policy, reviews work in progress and / or completion, and provides instruction as necessary). Duties are performed in accordance with established and specified procedures. Supervision Exercised Will oversee assignments given to the Department of Public Works work force. In the absence of the Public Works Director, directs the activities of the road crews for the duties assigned and may be required to move around several sites to insure work is being completed in a manner acceptable to proven standards. Examples of Essential Duties (Any one position may not include all of the duties listed, nor do the listed examples include all duties, which may be found in positions of this class. 1) May be required to operate, or train others to operate in precision work, one or more of the following pieces of heavy equipment: heavy dump truck with trailer, backhoe, front-end loader, grader, excavator, roller, tractor, etc. 2) Makes minor adjustments or directs others to make minor adjustments to equipment in the field. Reports any major repairs to the Director of Public Works. 3) Directs and supervises maintenance and construction of Highway Department activities that include but not limited to road construction, installation of drainage, paving, cold patching, graveling or sanding of roads, streets cleaning, sign work, sidewalk repair, and winter maintenance. 4) Responsible for summer and winter maintenance of all highway equipment. 5) Understand the function of all road equipment. 6) Purchases garage supplies and items within the limitations of the Public Works budget. 7) May assume other duties as assigned by the Director of Public Works, Town Administrator, or Board of Selectmen. 8) Plow, salt and sand during winter months 9) Labor as needed 10) Other duties Assigned Knowledge, Stills and Abilities Required Demonstrate the ability to deal with employees subordinate to you in a fair and equal manner. Have a working knowledge of current supervisory practices, employee and job safety. Have the ability to deal with, and work with the general public. Have the ability to carry out and oversee assigned projects as they are laid out by the Public Works Director. On-going skills development and training in highway maintenance and road construction. The ability to understand the functions of all equipment and its capabilities. Minimum Required Qualifications Person holding this position must have graduated from high school or have earned a graduate equivalent diploma (GED), must have a working knowledge of, or be willing to learn computers and have not less then five years in the road construction industry. Must possess a valid NH. Class B commercial drivers license and have no offences which would prohibit or restrict insurance carrier providing coverage to the Town of Wilton.
