This operations management role is critical to ensuring the safety and efficiency of the terminal’s staff, the effective management of our vehicle fleet, and compliance with regulatory standards. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership abilities, strategic thinking, and deep expertise in logistics, fleet management, and DOT regulations. Experience managing a hazmat or liquid tanker fleet is preferred but not required.
Responsibilities:
Build and maintain driver relationships through understanding and meeting driver needs. Oversee all fleet management activities, including vehicle procurement, maintenance, utilization, and retirement. Ensure full compliance with DOT regulations and industry safety standards, including monitoring and auditing for FMCSA adherence. Plan and coordinate transportation logistics, including route optimization, scheduling, and vehicle dispatch – collaborate closely with the maintenance department to coordinate timely repairs and upkeep of equipment, vehicles, and facilities, ensuring uninterrupted and safe operations. Manage relationships with third-party transportation providers, including contract negotiations and performance evaluation. Lead and mentor the transportation, fleet, and DOT compliance teams, ensuring high performance, proper training, and team development. Analyze transportation and fleet data to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions to enhance efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Validate and approve invoices related to transportation, vehicles, and fleet services. Strategically allocates resources, including personnel, equipment, and materials, to meet operational requirements while prudently managing costs Conduct vehicle safety checks, maintenance requests, and performance assessments for both drivers and vehicles. Oversee accident management and compliance reporting for all transportation and fleet-related incidents. Drives organizational culture and ensures that all staff members are functioning cohesively Works closely with the recruiting department to drive talent acquisition and retention initiatives, ensuring the terminal’s staffing needs are met effectively Monitors Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) diligently, identifying areas for enhancement and implementing strategies for continuous improvement Remains abreast of industry standards and best practices, continuously updating knowledge and skills to drive operational excellence Travel within designated region
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience). Experience managing a hazmat or fuel fleet is preferred but not required. Proven experience in transportation management, with a minimum of 3 years in a leadership role. Strong knowledge of transportation regulations (especially DOT), safety standards, and industry best practices. Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Proficiency in transportation management software and tools. Leadership abilities, with a track record of motivating and developing high-performing teams.
