GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION

To supervise the daily requirements of the dock and transportation of used goods, new goods, salvage and trash. Supervise the coordination of work on the docks with both forklift drivers and truck drivers. Supervise the storage of donations and overall warehouse cleanup and organization when necessary. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Assists the Transportation Manager in the hiring and training processes and supervises staff giving oral and written communications regarding work performance as necessary. Recruits, interviews, and conduct workplace orientations for new hires as needed. This duty is performed about 10% of the time. Assists with scheduling employees with a focus on controlling payroll costs and adequate coverage of the transportation and forklift operation. Initiates and completes personnel and payroll records in a timely manner as well as other paperwork required in the day-to-day operations of the dock and transportation functions. Keeps employees’ daily attendance records and forwards employee requests for absences and vacations to the Transportation Manager. This duty is performed about 10% of the time. Assists with maintaining all transportation logs. Ensure that all transportation logs are properly utilized and submitted to the Transportation Manager. This duty is performed about 5% of the time. Expected to supervise all dock and warehouse activities. Drive scheduled routes, when needed. Coordinates the daily transportation schedule, as well as supervise the safety and efficiency of all drivers and forklift drivers. This duty is performed about 55% of the time. Ensures the daily inspection and maintenance of forklifts by operators. Ensures that trucks are safe and in compliance with the FMCSA standards. This duty is performed about 10% of the time. Assists with performing monthly safety training with the transportation department and provides necessary documentation to the Transportation Manager. This duty is performed about 5% of the time. Assists with scheduling and maintenance of pool vehicles. This duty is performed about 5% of the time. Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High school or GED, plus specialized schooling and/or on the job education in a specific skill area; e.g. data processing, clerical/administrative, equipment operation, etc, plus 2 years related experience and/or training, and 7 to 11 months related management experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Must have a valid state driver’s license and be insurable by the company’s insurance carrier. Must be able to pass a DOT physical and drug screen.

PREFERRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Class A CDL driver’s license, Forklift certification.

RESPONSIBILITY FOR WORK OF OTHERS

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities may include but not limited to interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Supervises a small group (3-7) of employees, usually of lower classifications. Assigns and checks work; assists and instructs as required and performs same work as those supervised, or closely related work, a portion of the time. Content of the work supervised is of a non-technical nature, but presents numerous situations to which policies and precedents must be interpreted and applied.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Two years’ supervisory experience, preferably in the service industry, required. Ability to intermittently sit, stand, and walk throughout the course of a routine eight-hour workday. Must be in good physical condition and be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds without assistance. Full range of motions and dexterity in both hands. Hearing and vision necessary to perform essential functions. Emotional stability is necessary to perform essential functions. Must possess and exercise excellent written, verbal, and telephone communication skills Ability to work weekends and holidays, with occasional nights. Must be able to interact cordially and productively with a variety of people. Must be able to market Goodwill and explain the mission to the general public. Must be able to read, write and communicate clearly in English. Must establish and maintain an efficient working relationship with supervisors, employees and co-workers, while motivating them to their best performance. Must be able to establish an effective schedule for employees. Must be able to work a flexible schedule, on short notice, including nights and weekends and frequently in excess of 40 hours per week. The ability to function in a hectic work environment with occasional periods of high stress. Must be able to take the initiative and make decisions with little supervision. Must observe safety policies in all phases of the operation. Ability to lift 50 pounds, up to 100 pounds with assistance.
