Class Title
The Supervisor, Warehouse, under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent, plans, directs, or coordinates the storage or distribution operations within a major unit.
Duties
1. Works in close concert with managers and supervisors to insure optimum supply support.
2. Initiates or processes requests for tools, equipment, parts, supplies and materials through a warehouse management computer system.
3. Researches manufacturers’ catalogs and price lists.
4. Calls Purchasing Agent or his Representative and/or contracts local vendors to determine availability and cost of items.
5. Implements approved work, training, physical layout, security and safety programs for the warehouse.
6. Oversees and performs work involving ordering, picking up, signing for, inventorying, posting, stocking, storing and issuing items.
7. May be required to compile, compute, and record maintenance and repair cost data.
8. Submits required reports and maintains files/records.
9. Issues supplies to the public (i.e. sandbags), requiring customer service skills and adherence to public policy.
10. Operates material handling equipment.
11. Performs other duties as required or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Bachelor’s Degree in a related field from an accredited college or university, or the equivalent in work experience is preferred.
2. Demonstrated leadership qualities and ability to perform assigned tasks.
3. Three (3) years of progressively more responsible training and experience performing bookkeeping and clerical tasks pertaining to the receipt, issue, stocking and inventory control of tools, equipment, parts. supplies, and materials.
4. Basic computer skills required, preferably in warehouse management systems.
5. Ability to plan, initiate, and execute programs; ability to interpret and apply approved policies and procedures; verbal facility; tact and diplomacy; and ability to promote teamwork among subordinates.
6. Customer service skills.
Physical Requirements:
1. Most tasks involve the ability to exert medium/heavy physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of medium weight (10-50 pounds).
2. Some tasks may involve extended periods of time at workstation.
3. Some tasks involve the regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling. 4. Some tasks may require perception and discrimination of color, sound, odor, and visual ability. 5. Job must be performed with or without accommodations.
Work Environment:
1. Some tasks may require exposure to temperature extremes, strong odors, toxic/poisonous agents, smoke, dusts, pollen, and vibrations.
Travel:
Some local travel may be required to accomplish job assignments.
