Full Job Description Position Summary:
This position will manage, and coordinate activities of employees engaged in receiving, distribution, and material handling. This position is responsible for the efficient handling and shipment of finished products to meet customer requirements. Will lead and train employees to improve department and individual performance. Identifies and implements safety, quality, and productivity improvements. Drives for excellence. Work is performed under the general direction of the Distribution and Transportation Logistics Director and includes responsibility for the work performance of others.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
Supervises all activities related to receiving, storing, labeling, and shipping product from a distribution warehouse; ensures activities of Warehouse Operators, Forklift Operators, Order Fillers, Shipping Coordinators, and others are successfully completed. Continuously drives for improvement; identifies areas for improvement and implements; creates and maintains an environment that promotes employee engagement, teamwork and focus on results. Develops, trains, and evaluates employees; develops flexible work force that can respond quickly to changing customer/distribution requirements; coaches and counsels employees. Develops effective working relationships with other departments to ensure ongoing communications in all areas of business. Ensures all performance metrics are met; develops immediate plans to address shortcomings. Manages employee workload and staff utilization, including temporary employees; reviews time and attendance records; recommends personnel changes and ensures staffing is appropriate to meet daily distribution needs. Reviews open order report; prepares and distributes workload to employees on a daily basis; tracks cases and orders pulled weekly; ensures non-conforming material is tagged and put into NCM location; ensures that materials are rotated to picking locations on a first-in first-out basis for order picking; writes work orders for maintenance repair of equipment used in the distribution warehouse and reports it to the shipping coordinator for scheduling of maintenance. Prepares training for annual physical inventory; trains employees on physical inventory process; reviews processes and tests equipment prior to annual physical inventory. Develops and prepares reports and communicates department performance results, and other company activities to all team members. Ensures all product is properly received and put away in the distribution center and are available for picking and shipping to customers. Ensures department spending is in line with budget requirements and productivity / efficiency targets are met. Responds and investigates issues raised regarding customer complaints. Maintains safe working conditions and practices in the department in accordance with all Barr policy guidelines as well as local, state and federal laws. Works closely with Production and Customer Service for the timely fulfillment of orders and to improve customer satisfaction. Performs all work in accordance with Barr’s safety and quality guidelines and procedures; demonstrates clear understanding of these safety and quality objectives. Performs other work and special projects as required by the Distribution and Transportation Logistics Manager.
Qualifications/Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Operations Management, Supply Chain or related field and a minimum of three years of management experience in a distribution center. Must have experience managing others and have worked in a fast-paced environment. Strong leadership skills and the ability to work independently with general direction are necessary. Must be results oriented with strong customer focus. The ability to communicate very effectively (verbal and written skills) in English is necessary. Ability to train and coach others is essential. Experience with lean manufacturing a plus. Must have excellent organization and follow-up skills; excellent verbal and written communication skills, excellent problem-solving skills, ability to organize and prioritize work assignments; ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment; ability to analyze situations and respond in a timely manner; ability to participate in multi-functional teams; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within Barr; ability to establish and implement new processes; ability to manage the work performance of distribution employees; must have working knowledge of computer applications.
Work Environment/Physical Demands/Travel:
Typical warehouse environment with moderate to loud noise level. Ability to sit, stand, walk, reach, climb, stoop, talk, see, and hear and hand/wrist use for extended periods of time. Ability to read and understand general business periodicals, professional journals, government regulations, etc.; ability to prepare reports, charts, and graphs; ability to document issues and resolutions; ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from employees and managers. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions; ability to deal with problems involving concrete variables in routine situations. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. with use of appropriate equipment. Ability work near moving machinery and/or places above ground level and to have limited exposure to fumes or airborne particles and/or toxic or caustic chemicals; may have occasional exposure to outdoor weather conditions, risk of electrical shock, vibration, and extreme heat or cold.
