The Material Handler Yard is crucial in ensuring efficient handling, staging, and distribution of materials within Storm Smart’s yard area. This role includes responsibilities for receiving and checking in materials, maintaining inventory accuracy, and supporting the production team by pulling necessary materials. The Material Handler Yard is also responsible for maintaining equipment, following safety procedures, and ensuring a clean and organized work environment. This position requires punctuality, attention to detail, and a commitment to meeting the needs of the company and its customers.

Key Responsibilities:
Material Receiving & Check-In:

Receive and check in materials, ensuring accuracy in quantities and part numbers. Reconcile any discrepancies on packing lists from suppliers.

Stocking & Locating Materials:

Stock and locate materials in designated areas within the yard. Maintain accurate records and ensure materials are properly organized.

Kan-Ban Maintenance:

Maintain the Kan-Ban system for material management within the yard, ensuring an uninterrupted flow of materials.

Material Pulling:

Pull materials needed for the plant and saw-sign, ensuring timely and accurate delivery to support production.

Preventative Maintenance:

Perform and document preventative maintenance on material movers, forklifts, and other equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.

Scrap Recording:

Record scrap materials according to established procedures and report findings as necessary.

Purchasing Communication:

Inform the Purchasing department of any material discrepancies or needs to ensure timely replenishment and accurate inventory levels.

G/L Number Knowledge:

Apply the correct G/L (General Ledger) numbers when issuing materials, ensuring proper accounting and reporting. 5

S & Housekeeping:

Complete daily 5S checklists and maintain general housekeeping standards to ensure a clean, organized, and efficient work environment.

Shift Tasks:

Complete all special tasks assigned during your shift and ensure proper handover between shifts, including PPE exchange and pre-shift checklists.

Issue Resolution:

Follow established procedures when parts or orders cannot be identified, ensuring proper steps are taken to resolve issues efficiently.

Tracking & Reporting:

Develop and maintain tracking tools to support accurate reporting of departmental consumption and spending.

Required Skills/ Abilities:

Previous experience in material handling, staging, or a related field. Ability to operate forklifts and other material handling equipment. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Knowledge of inventory management systems, including Kan-Ban. Familiarity with G/L numbers and basic accounting principles. Ability to work in various weather conditions. Good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team. Physical ability to lift heavy materials and stand for extended periods. Commitment to safety protocols and procedures.

Education/Experience/Licenses/Certifications:

Manufacturing experienced High school diploma or equivalent Prior experience in similar field Must have a clean and valid driver’s license.
