Job Description
Yard Attendant, Cement Block Yard Snelling Staffing Orlando, FL 32801 Our client company was founded in Orlando over sixty years ago and began with just the founder and two employees. They manufactured concrete block three days a week and delivered block three days a week depending on demand. The founder’s spouse was technically a fourth employee, but she was not on the payroll. She would spend Florida days without air conditioning, sitting in her car doing the bookkeeping because they had no office. As time went on, they conservatively grew their business from one plant to five plants under a single roof. This successful team worked together for over fifty-two years. Now, the company is managed by the third generation of the family with two other locations besides Orlando. The company has an immediate need for a Yard Tennant/Manager in their Orlando block plant yard. Cement Plant Yard Tennant/ Yard Manager (Depending on experience) This position requires the employee to be in good physical condition and able to lift heavy objects (up to 80 Lbs) without assistance. Proficient forklift skills are necessary, along with a standard 3-year forklift certification card to fulfill the duties of this position in a safe, timely and efficient manner. This position reports directly to dispatch. 1) Daily visual inspection of the lift truck. You are required to visually inspect each lift truck that you intend to use, prior to the day’s start. This process includes checking all wheels and tires, looking for fluid leaks and checking all accessible fluid levels. Fill low tires and top off fluids as necessary to recommended levels. Any findings that you cannot repair yourself in a timely manner should be reported to the mechanics immediately. 2) Shipping.& receiving. This will be one of the primary responsibilities that you have as a yard tenant. You will be required to load trucks in a timely manner (both A-1 and customer trucks) ensuring that you are loading the correct products and that these products meet or exceed the company’s quality standards. Any noticeable quality issues should be brought to the attention of dispatch or the production manager. DO NOT load any damaged product. If you notice damaged product during the loading process, you are required to replace the damaged items if possible. If you cannot replace the damaged product easily and in a timely manner, place the material to the side and attempt to load another cube or pallet of like product. Once you have all necessary trucks loaded properly, you will need to attend to any damaged product that may have been set aside during the loading process, In addition to loading trucks, you are also required to receive and off load any products delivered during your work schedule. You must verify that the materials being delivered are for the company and in good condition, verify that the quantity being delivered is correct and finally that it is placed or taken to the correct department or location in the yard and staged correctly either for stock or resale. 3) Order assembly. This task should be the focal point of a Yard Tennant. The purpose of this function is to assemble all block and materials for our customer’s orders that are quantified in less than full cubes or pallets, essentially creating or constructing the partial cubes or pallets into full ones. To accomplish this responsibility successfully, product knowledge, more specifically, product identification is critical. If the wrong products are pulled or if product that is needed is not pulled, it creates a problematic situation for both the customer and our company. Not only does it reflect incompetence on our part and frustrate the customer, but now action has to be taken to expedite shipment of the correct material to the jobsite. These situations are not only inconvenient and embarrassing but can be costly to our company. The short term expense is monetary (financial), in the long term, upon any reoccurrence can cost us customer relationships translating to lost business opportunities and future revenue, During order assembly, you must construct the cubes or pallets of product in a sensible and safe manner. One way to accomplish this is to stack the cube starting with the largest block on the bottom for a steady foundation and work in any smaller items toward the top. When possible, you should overlap seems on each layer to help create an interlocking effect for cube stability. Cubes or pallets of block should not be stacked more that six (6) layers high and should be wrapped with stretch film if the stability of the cube or pallet is questionable. While assembling the orders for shipment, be mindful that job site terrain is much rougher than what you experience in the block yard. Treat the order as if you were going to be the one to make the delivery. 4) Customer Service. As the Yard Tennant, you will have many opportunities throughout the day to make a positive impact on the buying experience of our customers. Each customer should be greeted cheerfully, helped in a timely manner and left knowing that their business is welcomed and appreciated. If a customer’s situation requires hand loading for any reason and they need assistance, you are expected to lend a helpful hand. Our motto is excellent customer service, and you play a key role in upholding it’s meaning. 5) House keeping. The block yard is your office, keep it clean and organized. Your day should start and end with a sweep through the yard, collecting any broken block or trash that is out of place. As you move through your day to day routine, you will be expected to maintain a clean and safe work environment for yourself and others to the best of your ability. If you have an accident and spill any product, pick it up and dispose of it properly as soon as possible. Items such as broken block have sharp edges that can puncture tires and injure yourself and other employees. Also, after being run over multiple times, what was once a small mess that could have been removed easily with a single effort, now becomes a much larger mess that requires a longer, more tedious clean up. While accepting receivables, you will take delivery of re-sellable items that will need to be stocked out in their appropriate location. If not in a position to do so immediately, stock the inventory out as soon as possible. Failure to do so could give a false appearance of physical inventory and lead to lost sales or over ordering of stocked items, both of which cost the company money. 6) Monitor Inventory. You are a set of eyes that can be very helpful to the production facet of the company. Not only are you around and see the current levels of inventory daily, but because you assemble the orders and load trucks, you also have the knowledge of what items are most common and may need replenishing prior to others. This enables the production manager to strategize and best plan his or her production schedule. 7) Weekends. Everyone likes their weekends, here at our company we feel the same way, however, as a function of our customer service, we are here for our customers on Saturdays if they need us. If the workload dictates that we need to work Saturdays, you will be expected to be available unless you have made previous authorized arrangements to be scheduled off. We will make an effort to foresee a Saturday work schedule to give you as much advance notice as possible. Unfortunately, due to the nature of the industry, there may be times that notice is last minute. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation. 8) Dress Code. At or near the end of your 90-day probationary period you will be issued (11) uniforms. You are expected to wear your issued uniforms daily with the shirt tucked in. Other daily dress accessories that are mandatory are Safety Toed Boots, Safety Vest and a Hard Hat. Failure to comply with the dress code will result in a reprimand. Hours are 5AM – 5PM Monday – Friday. Benefits apply after three month temp to hire period.
