Georgia Winery is seeking a skilled production member for a Cellar Hand position. Georgia Winery was established in 1983 and is a family owned and operated winery that manufactures Sweet Southern Wine, distributes its product across multiple channels, and has growth plans to continue servicing its customers. We are looking for the right person to join our team.

Position Summary:

As Cellar Hand, you will assume responsibility for all production activities- including bottling, tank cleaning, grounds keeping, and wine tasks. The Cellar Hand reports to the Operations Manager. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Perform general activities during the fermentation process, which may include some or all the following: moving juice to fermentation tanks; monitoring tanks for temperature control and fermentation progress; racking and performing pump-overs; filtering, fining, and stabilizing; and other tasks as specified. Perform general activities associated with wine vessel maintenance: washing, filling, topping, overlaying, keeping inventory levels, and checking CO2 levels. Performing general activities related to the bottling process: cleaning the bottling line, cleaning the holding tanks, preparing wine for bottling, moving wine into the tanks, and providing support and management for the bottling crew as needed. Perform general tasks related to cellar maintenance and cleaning; monitoring cellar supplies and equipment; participating in safety presentations and training; and assisting winemakers in other tasks as needed. Cleaning and sanitation of all winery equipment and surfaces. Comply with all company safety policies, practices, and procedures. Participate in safety training and quality standards and report all unsafe conditions or unmet quality standards. Perform Cellar and Grounds work- including all pruning vines, facilities, maintenance and equipment work and repairs. Assure work orders are performed correctly and completely. Communicate any issues or discrepancies to the Manager immediately. Helps manage inventory and ordering of cleaning chemicals, production gases, equipment parts, and winery supplies. May act as shift lead with some supervisory responsibilities to help assist Manager with workflow completion and staff performance. Cultivate environment of safety, quality, and continuous improvement. Participate in team efforts and perform additional duties as needed.

Requirements:

Minimum of 5 years relevant food or beverage production experience, ideally in the beverage alcohol sector. Strict adherence to safety and sanitation guidelines. Full-time availability (Monday through Friday). Forklift experience is a must. Forklift trainer experience a plus.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Excellent attention to detail. Excellent organizational skills. Flexible to schedule changes as needed. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide accurately, using standard American units of currency, weight, volume, and/or distance. Ability to recognize and correct inaccuracies when using calculator or computer spreadsheet. Ability to apply common sense understanding to a variety of tasks and duties. Ability to adapt to minor changes in routine, solve basic problems, and work with moderate supervision. Highly organized and can always maintain an organized and clean and sanitary environment while ensuring all staff follow these protocols. A wine making facility always requires tight cleanliness procedures by all staff members.

Physical Job Functions:

Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs. frequently. Must be able to stand for 10 hours. Must be able to climb ladders. Must be able to climb and work at heights. Must be comfortable working in tight spaces. Ability to stand, bend, squat, push, pull, and work at heights for 10 hours a day. Heavy physical activity performing regular strenuous activities, including standing, walking, climbing, reaching, carrying, pushing, pulling, squatting, and other motions. Stability and balance adequate for elevated and/or narrow work areas. Manual dexterity sufficient to reach, grasp, hold, handle items, and work with the fingers, wrists, elbows, and shoulders. Ability to pay attention, be alert, and use all senses for working safely around machinery, vehicles, and other equipment.

Work Environment:

Indoor and outdoor environment with variable lighting, temperature and/or ventilation. Areas may or may not be heated, air-conditioned, or shaded. Exposure to fumes and/or a variety of chemicals. Moderate to high noise levels typical of machinery, power tools, vehicles, and other equipment. Work on concrete floors for a long period of time.

Schedule:
