Immediate openings Overview Mersen USA, a global leader in advanced materials and electrical power solutions, is seeking a dependable and hardworking General Laborer to support operations at our Process Equipment Division in Gonzales, LA. This division specializes in the design, manufacture, and repair of graphite heat exchangers and corrosion-resistant process equipment for the chemical and pharmaceutical industries. This role is ideal for individuals with strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on experience in industrial or manufacturing environments. Your work will directly contribute to the high standards of safety, quality, and performance that define Mersen’s global reputation. Key Responsibilities Disassemble, clean, inspect, repair, and reassemble graphite and other corrosion-resistant process equipment (including heat exchangers and pressure vessels). Operate and maintain hand tools and power tools for grinding, cutting, fitting, and assembly. Fabricate or modify components according to technical drawings and work instructions. Assist with pressure and leak testing to verify equipment integrity. Support material handling and movement within the facility, including forklift operation. Maintain accurate records of inspection, repair, and production activities. Keep the shop floor clean, safe, and organized, in compliance with Mersen’s EH&S standards. Experience & Skills Previous experience in an industrial, manufacturing, or mechanical setting is preferred. Familiarity with basic fabrication and assembly tools. Ability to accurately read and interpret a tape measure is essential. Mechanical troubleshooting or maintenance experience is a plus. Forklift operation experience preferred (certification or training may be provided). Ability to work with precision and consistency on assembly lines or in repair areas. Physical Demands Lift, carry, and maneuver parts/equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. Stand, walk, bend, and crouch for extended periods. Frequent use of hands, wrists, and arms in repetitive motions. Climb ladders or work at heights when necessary. Work in hot, cold, or outdoor conditions as required. Work Environment Industrial shop environment with exposure to: Graphite dust, chemical vapors, and cleaning solvents High noise levels and elevated temperatures Occasional field service or equipment delivery support may be required. Requirements Reliable transportation to and from the Gonzales facility or job sites. Ability to follow work instructions and operate independently or as part of a team. Strong focus on safety, housekeeping, and environmental compliance. Must be able to pass pre-employment and random drug testing. Punctuality, consistent attendance, and a professional attitude are essential. Willingness to work overtime or support field operations when needed.
