PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS
Physical Effort:

The Merial Handler is required to drive a truck for several hours to reach the remote locion of service. Incumbent is required to stand on hard surfaces for extended periods of time, and to bend, climb and stoop, and work in tiring and sometimes uncomfortable positions. They may lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds, with heavier items being moved with handling equipment or the assistance of other workers. She/he moves supplies and merials with pallet jacks, forklifts and through physical labor. During travel, considerable physical effort may be required to change tires and make limited emergency repairs. The duties require considerable dexterity, hand, foot and eye coordinion, and concentrion.

Working Conditions:

Merial Handler of this position will opere motor vehicles in all types of traffic and weher conditions on public roads and are exposed to the danger of serious accidents. Incumbent works both outdoors and indoors, including areas th may be hot, damp, cold, drafty, and/or poorly lighted. Merials Handlers are regularly exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, bruises, abrasions, falls, and injury from falling stock or mechanized work areas. Approprie protective gear (e.g., gloves, support belt, steel toe shoes) supplied and shall always be utilized by the merial handler to minimize such risks. Must be able to sit for long periods of time while driving and is exposed to road hazard conditions daily. The incumbent will apply all established safety practices, will report unsafe conditions and unsafe practices to the supervisor and will report any occupional injury or illness in a prompt practical manner. She/he has regular access to printed and electronic files containing sensitive da, which must be protected under the provisions of the Privacy Act of 1974 and other applicable laws, federal regulions, VA stutes and policies, and VHS policy.
