Solid Waste Management provides trash, recycling, and compost collection service for single family Denver homes and multi-family dwellings with up to seven units, municipal facilities, and Denver Public Schools. The agency’s Graffiti Removal Program removes graffiti from private and commercial property and the public Right-of-Way. The Keep Denver Beautiful campaign is housed in this agency. The Solid Waste Management Team has an opening for a City Inspector II. This position is responsible for enforcing codes and regulations regarding illegal dumping, graffiti, and other situations that might arise. This position also will help educate residents about rules and regulation guidelines for waste services to gain compliance. Specifically, as the City Inspector II, you will: Investigate and resolve complaints regarding solid waste, illegal dumping, and other compliance issues, and present information to residents regarding code violations. Research and investigate issues; develop a plan of action and present to executive management. Issue permits, notices, orders, summons, and citations. Provide education to residents and resolve issues to gain voluntary compliance. Interpret, adapt, and apply appropriate written guidelines, precedents, and standardized work practices to a variety of problematic situations. Initiate appropriate action when unforeseen conditions are present such as identifying and reporting criminal activities and recognizing engineering deficiencies. Act as a representative of Solid Waste Management and the City and County of Denver in court. Research data to develop reports; enter information into City programs to ensure and track compliance, completion, and/or billing. Train, mentor, and assist other inspectors and investigators with investigations as needed. Perform other related duties as assigned. What You’ll Bring Our ideal candidate has some or all the following experience, skills, and characteristics: Two or more years of public contact experience explaining government and/or commercial development policies, procedure, statutes, rules, and/or regulations, and relating them to specific problems. Knowledge of the City and County of Denver’s Solid Waste Management programs and service guidelines.
Required Minimum Qualifications Education requirement:
Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate.
Experience Requirement:
Two (2) years of experience conducting on-site inspections and investigations to ensure compliance with standards and ordinances.
Education/Experience Equivalency:
Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.
License/Certifications:
This job requires driving. Requires a valid Driver’s License at the time of application. Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.
