POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for performing landfill site activities related to solid waste disposal.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
This class specification lists the major duties and requirements of the job and is not all-inclusive. Incumbent(s) may be expected to perform job-related duties other than those contained in this document and may be required to have specific job-related knowledge and skills. Assists with waste disposal operations and activities. Ensures that waste disposal activities are in compliance with public health, insect and rodent control laws and regulations. Prepares records and reports on disposal activities such as quantities of waste handled, receipts from operations, and actions taken to comply with public health and environmental regulations. Examines loads of waste for recyclable materials and directs sorting, handling and recycling operations. Assists public with activities; onloads refuse as required; answers question and resolves simple issues. Maintains trash compactors by performing adjustments and minor maintenance as required. Checks job sites for potential hazards; ensures that appropriate safety equipment is worn Maintains the grounds of the convenience site to include washing down property to reduce odor. Coordinates efforts with landfill and notifies Coordinator when bins are full. Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit’s service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team. Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with public and staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment.
QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:
High School Diploma/GED AND one (1) year of customer service experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Required Knowledge and Skills Knowledge of:
Rules and regulations related to waste disposal. Principles and policies of landfill and convenience sites. Safe work methods and safety regulations pertaining to the work. Techniques for dealing with a variety of individuals from various ethnic and social backgrounds.
Skill in:
Operating and maintaining specialized equipment and safety equipment relevant to assigned work. Instructing others in work procedures Safely operating and maintaining a variety of hand, power and shop tools and equipment used in the work. Preparing records and reports of activities and work performed. Understanding and following written and oral instructions. Dealing successfully with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds, in person and over the telephone. Contributing effectively to the accomplishment of team or work unit goals, objectives and activities.
