East TN, TN
Edgewater Technical Associates is seeking qualified candidates for a Radiological Waste
Shipper (Active Clearance) opportunity in East TN.
Per diem is available for those who qualify.
The successful candidate must have a working knowledge of RCRA, DOT, and radioactive waste management pertaining to the packaging and management of hazardous, radioactive, and mixed waste.
This position requires an active or recently active DOE Q or L, or DOD Secret or Top-Secret Security Clearance.

Job Summary:

This position is responsible for ensuring that all aspects of the Transportation/Waste Management (T/WM) programs are compliant with federal and state waste regulations. The selected candidate will be responsible for safe and compliant transportation of radioactive and hazardous waste and product shipped to sites nationwide. Specific attributes include waste characterization packaging, storage, and disposition including compliance with RCRA, TSCA, NRC, and DOT.
Under the general supervision of the manager, has technical responsibility for manufacturing, quality control or subcontractor processes which must yield acceptable product. May act as group leader for other technicians/technologists engaged in mutual technical work. Applies intensive and diversified knowledge and practices in broad areas of assignments. Makes independent decisions on problems and methods and represents the division in conferences to resolve important questions and to plan and coordinate work.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Interface with on-site waste generators to develop solutions to technical problems associated with T&WM.
Provide direction to waste generators for adherence to on-site and off-site waste acceptance criteria.
Interpret laboratory analytical data and characterize material for disposal in accordance with applicable regulations and disposal/treatment facilities waste acceptance criteria.
Review and approve work requests, procedures, and drawings detailing proposed process changes and determine waste characterization, packaging, storage and disposal strategies. Waste streams included are RCRA, low level radioactive waste, mixed waste, PCB waste, and sanitary waste.
Develop/revise waste characterization document.
Prepare sampling and analysis plans in accordance with EPA guidance documents and SW-846.
Interpret laboratory analytical data and characterize material for disposal in accordance with applicable regulations and disposal/treatment facilities waste acceptance criteria.
Satisfactorily complete or maintain DOE Advanced Hazardous/Radioactive/Mixed Waste Shipper Certification.
Manifest radioactive, hazardous, and mixed waste for transport.
Plan, develop, and coordinate a large and important project or a number of smaller projects.
Perform complex or novel assignments requiring the development of new or improved techniques and procedures.
May develop and evaluate plans and criteria for a variety of projects and activities to be carried out by others.
Organize own work and that of other workers who may be assigned as assistants on projects. Estimate personnel needs and schedules and assign work to meet completion dates.
Provide periodic written reports outlining work to date, problems encountered, and solutions found to be effective.
Perform assigned work in a timely manner with a high degree of accuracy.
Assist in the training of new personnel.

Qualifications:

3-15+ years of nuclear waste management and shipping experience.
Working knowledge of 49 CFR transportation of hazardous materials, IATA and

EPA RCRA

regulations.
Strong understanding of radioactive waste management pertaining to packaging and shipping hazardous, radioactive, and mixed waste.
Must be able to demonstrate superior written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
Active or recently active DOE Q or L, or DOD Secret or Top-Secret Security Clearance.
