Join Polk County’s Solid Waste team as a Landfill Operator and help support essential waste management operations using heavy equipment like dozers, compactors, loaders, and graders. This hands-on position plays a vital role in environmental compliance, safety, and landfill efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

Operate a range of heavy equipment to process and compact waste Maintain landfill slopes, berms, and drainage systems Apply and maintain daily/intermediate cover to prevent environmental impact Collaborate with spotters for safety and customer service Perform basic maintenance, inspections, and GPS-guided equipment operations Ensure compliance with DEP regulations and landfill procedures

Preferred Equipment Experience:

Compactors, dozers, loaders, graders, excavators Roll-off trucks, claw trucks, fuel trucks, hydro-seeders GPS machine control systems

Requirements:

3+ years of experience operating heavy equipment in landfill or similar environments Valid driver’s license (must obtain Florida DL at time of hire) Physical ability to work outdoors in varied terrain and conditions Willingness to obtain

Landfill Certification within 12 months Availability during declared county emergencies

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with private landfill operations, recycling, or transfer stations CDL Class B Claw and/or Roll-Off Truck operation experience
