Operating tractor mower, dump truck, knuckleboom, leaf vac and other motorized equipment in an assigned division; performing a variety of maintenance tasks. Operates a variety of Category B equipment, and on a limited basis Category C equipment, in the performance of tasks for the division such as dump truck, tractor mower, knuckleboom, leaf vac, and similar motorized vehicles and small equipment. Operates equipment within the street, around other ground utilities, in pedestrian traffic, and other tight places requiring care and skill. Performs minor repairs and maintenance on assigned equipment; cleans and washes equipment on a periodic basis. Sets up traffic control to ensure safety during workzone, special event, and emergency situations. May train new employees on assigned equipment. Operates equipment during snow removal and ice control. Uses a variety of hand tools and equipment in performance of tasks, such as chainsaw, weed-eater, edger, etc. Adheres to safety rules and regulations. Performs related tasks as required. Qualifications Thorough knowledge in the operation, maintenance, capabilities and limitations of equipment used in area of assignment; thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards and proper safety precautions involved in the operation of equipment; thorough knowledge of traffic laws and regulations governing equipment operation; thorough knowledge of City and department policies and procedures; thorough knowledge in understanding various manuals associated with assigned equipment; general knowledge in preparing reports and other documents; thorough knowledge in the operation of the equipment required for the position; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to detect signs of mechanical failure of equipment; ability to make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment; ability to make arithmetic computations; ability to use measuring devices; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public. Special Requirements Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and moderate experience in performance of manual work and in the operation of motorized equipment.
