Your Responsibilities:
Vehicle Inspection, Fluid Drainage, and Catalytic Converter Removal As part of your role here, one of your main responsibilities will be preparing vehicles for the recycling process. That starts with a thorough inspection and safe removal of fluids and key components . Here’s what you’ll be doing: When a vehicle arrives, your first step is to inspect it carefully . You’ll check for things like fluid leaks, visible damage, and confirm what type of fuel it uses. You’ll also need to disconnect the battery and ground the vehicle —this is a critical safety step to prevent electrical sparks during the rest of the process. Next comes fluid drainage . You’ll use a tool called a Gas Buddy to safely remove gasoline or diesel from the fuel tank. This system transfers the fuel into grounded storage containers and helps prevent any vapors or fire hazards. Once the fuel is drained, you’ll move on to the rest of the fluids.
These include:
Engine oil Transmission fluid Brake fluid Coolant Windshield washer fluid Air conditioning refrigerant (which you’ll recover using a certified machine) Each of these fluids has to be drained into the correct container so they can be recycled or disposed of properly . After all fluids are drained, you’ll be responsible for cutting off the catalytic converters from the exhaust system. These parts contain valuable metals and must be handled carefully and stored securely. By the time you’re finished, the vehicle should be fully depolluted and ready for the next phase in the recycling process. Summary As a Dismantling and Recycling Technician, you will be essential in the safe and efficient dismantling of materials for recycling purposes. Reporting to the Operations Manager, your role involves operating heavy equipment such as loaders and excavators to facilitate the recycling process. You will utilize your core skills in heavy equipment operation and premium skills in forklift and truck operation to ensure smooth operations. Your relevant skills in sanitation and heavy lifting will contribute to maintaining a clean work environment while promoting sustainability through effective recycling practices.
