Job Description

Job SummaryUnder regular direction and in compliance with standard operating procedures and policies, acts as a crew leader for removal and disposal of litter, debris, and trash along roadways located within Greenville City rights-of-way. Assists in the installation and upkeep of rubberized speed humps. Provides direction on work assignments, maintains worksite safety, and ensures compliance with policy and procedures. Operates a pickup truck with dump body, utility vehicle, or other non-commercial driver’s license (CDL) vehicle with trailer for hauling work materials between sites and waste materials to a certified facility for disposal. Performs pre-and post-trip vehicle inspections and maintains accurate vehicle log. Position may require working adjustable hours.

Right-of-Ways:

Lead and assist others in the removal and disposal of litter, debris, and trash along roadways, sidewalks, and grassy areas within residential and/or commercial zones. Clear grass and leaves from sidewalks. Utilize a backpack blower, suction equipment, walk-behind power broom, or litter pickers in the performance of duties. Assist in the installation and upkeep of rubberized speed humps, with the use of generators and various handheld power tools. These tools include but not limited to corded hammer drills, battery-powered drills and battery-powered saws. Ensure crew has adequate supply of picking tools, bags, rakes, dust pans, containers, etc. Operate a pickup truck with dump body, utility vehicle, or other non-CDL vehicle with trailer to haul and deliver work materials between sites, as well as, waste to certified facility.80%Perform & Comply with

Safety Measures:

Train technicians on safe methods and procedures used to pick up and dispose of litter, debris, and trash. Perform daily pre-and post-trip vehicle inspections and maintain accurate vehicle log. Check and monitor fluid levels, tire air pressure, and other vehicle and/or equipment maintenance indicators. Ensure vehicle and equipment receive required maintenance. Inspect equipment for safe and operations. Responsible for daily cleanliness of assigned vehicle. Attend safety training classes.10%

Manage Waste Disposal:

Ensure waste materials are disposed of at certified facility. Assist with after-hour special events waste, litter, and neighborhood cleanup. Convey basic information to the public when approached with questions.10%Perform other duties as assigned.

Job RequirementsHigh school diploma or equivalent.

One (1) year of experience as a Streets Cleaning Tech I or related experience.

FEMA ICS

100, 552, and 700, within (3) months of employment. Preferred QualificationsExperience working in a lead worker capacity, preferably in public works or a related field. Driver’s License RequirementsValid South Carolina Class D Driver’s License.

Performance RequirementsKnowledge of:

Basic problem-solving techniques for equipment and materials.

Safe handling of litter, debris, recycling, and solid waste materials.

Ability to:

Maneuver a pickup truck with a trailer attached through traffic.

Walk for extended periods to move between work sites.

Work cooperatively with other staff members.

Lead other technicians performing the same or similar work.

Work in inclement weather conditions including cold rain, wind, heat, snow, sleet, etc.

Appropriately place out safety signage.

Use radios and basic GPS devices.

Work safely around traffic obstacles and vehicles.

Communicate with the public in a respectful and knowledgeable manner.

Operate and utilize litter pickers, radio, dust pans, cleaning supplies, rakes, broom, non-CDL pickup truck, utility vehicle, tow hitch, backpack blowers, ear protection, corded hammer drills, battery-powered drills, battery-powered saws, and small gas-powered generators.

Working ConditionsPrimary Work Location:

Outdoors (streets, sidewalks, rights-of-way, plaza. and parking garages).

Protective Equipment Required:

Safety glasses, gloves, ear plugs, earphones, safety vest, steel-toed boots, and dust mask.

Environmental/Health and Safety Factors:

Frequent exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards. Majority of work is performed outside or with exposure to risk. Daily exposure to extreme temperature, wetness and/or humidity, respiratory hazards, noise and vibration, and physical hazards. Constant exposure to communicable diseases, and physical danger. Frequent exposure to traffic. Occasional exposure to chemical hazards.

Physical Demands:

Continuously requires standing, walking, lifting, carrying, reaching, vision, hearing, twisting, and talking. Frequently requires crawling, pushing/pulling, climbing, foot controls, bending, and crouching and stooping. Occasionally requires sitting, kneeling, and balancing. Heavy strength demands include exerting up to 20 pounds constantly, 20-50 pounds frequently, and 50-100 pounds occasionally.

Mental Demands:

Frequently requires recurrent change of tasks, performing multiple tasks simultaneously, working closely with others as part of a team, and noisy/distracting environment. Occasionally requires time pressures, emergency situations, irregular schedule/overtime, and tedious or exacting work.
