Position Summary
JOB SUMMARY
The Academic Advisor is responsible for the academic advisement leading to graduation in addition to successful matriculation of the participants to a four-year institution.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Assists project director in developing educational activities/programs
Conducts recruitment under the project director’s guidance and supervision
Conducts workshops, seminars, and programs to assist project participants in areas such as transfer college admission and enrollment, financial literacy and related subjects
Assists participants with financial aid applications, scholarship applications and college admissions to transfer colleges
Compiles reports and provides information as requested by the project director
Identifies students in the Student Support Services program who are considering transferring to a four-year institution
Assists participants with their Academic and Career Plan and begins transfer advisement
Reviews academic progress of participants to increase retention
Coordinates college campus visits as well as educational or cultural field trips
Coordinates career and financial aid seminars/workshops
Maintains contact with four-year institutions to aid in participant transfer needs
Ensures that all participant contact and personal data is secure and up to date for reporting purposes
Maintains the security and accuracy of project data
Develops good rapport with students, college employees and the public
Complies with all policies of the Alabama Community College System, and the College

Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree from an approved U.S. Department of Education accredited institution in counseling, higher education, or related field required
Experience working with four-year institution’s admission applications and forms preferred
Master’s degree preferred
DESIRED KLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Excellent oralmunication, written, and interpersonal skills necessary Kledge of ADA requirements in amodating students with disabilities Familiarity with federal programs
Sensitivity to the needs of youth, minorities, the disabled, and other persons the project may serve
Serve on collegemittees as assigned

Salary Schedule C3- ($37,700). Salary will be based on

Salary Calculation:
For all positions on all Salary Schedules, the salary amount for the selected applicant is determined by step placement on the applicable schedule. Step placement is dependent upon the following: (a) all work experience in public education in Alabama and (b) all other work experience outside of public education in Alabama that, in the sole judgment of the College, directly relates to the requirements of the position. The applicant selected for the position must provide written verification(s) of this work experience within the time provided in if such experience is to be considered in determining their initial step place on the Salary Schedule. Work Experience Verifications:
Work experience verifications should be in the form of verification letters from employers and must includeplete employment dates, job title(s), job duties, and an indication whether such employment was full-time or part-time, and if part-time, the average number of hours worked each week. The letters should be on official letterhead and contain an authorized personnel signature. The College’s official employment verification form is also acceptable and is available upon request. If an employment verification cannot be obtained due to a legitimate reason, for purposes of meeting minimum requirements an applicant may submit copies of other trustworthy documentation such as appointment letters, contracts, pay stubs, or W-2 forms documenting the term of employment.
