POSITION OVERVIEW

The Senior Director of Client Services has responsibility for business development, budgets & contracts, and study startup, beginning from “early lead” in the business development process and continuing to First Patient First Visit (FPFV) in the clinic. Within business development, this position drives continued company growth by ensuring Charter Research has adequate future study opportunities and appropriate portfolio diversification. Within study startup, this position ensures the smooth and coordinated initiation of new clinical trials within the company, communicating with all departments. The Senior Director of Client Services collaborates with company leadership on business strategy and assists with clinic growth initiatives (or, at times, directly leads them) to support business development opportunities and success in recruitment and clinic deliverables.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Develop and maintain extensive knowledge of the clinical research industry, especially within the company’s current indications of expertise, as well as proposed future areas of development. Develop and maintain deep client relationships with sponsor and Contract Research Organization (CRO) contacts and external consultants, communicating professionally and frequently.
Drive the growth and development of Charter Research through securing and maximizing Clinical Trial Agreements (CTAs) that align with the company’s growth strategies and deliver the right number and type of studies to expand and diversify the company’s study portfolio.
Support the development of the ideal study portfolio for each Charter Research site by analyzing the therapeutic competencies, demographics, patient engagement channels, capacity, and prior performance of each site.
Oversee study startup to the point of First Patient First Visit (FPFV) and implement processes to ensure new clinical trials are initiated quickly, smoothly, and in excellent coordination with all department leaders.
Monitor study performance and advise the appropriate internal teams of any potential risk to future study opportunities. Assist with the development of mitigation plans as needed. Work closely with company leadership on business strategy and ensure alignment of business development and study startup processes and initiatives.
Assist with or directly lead selected clinic growth initiatives to support business development opportunities and success in recruitment and clinic deliverables.
Perform other duties as assigned or required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; coaching and mentoring employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the assigned department(s).

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Exceptional knowledge of the clinical research process and the drug development process, with ability to advise on best courses of action for sponsors, sites, and CROs in the conduct of clinical trials.
Expert communication and presentation skills, with experience and confidence to represent the company professionally to sponsors and CROs, as well as within the company leadership team.
Ability to develop and manage relationships with multiple high-level contacts.
High level of personal integrity.
Skilled and experienced in marketing and sales principles.
Ability to handle multiple projects and tasks simultaneously.
Ability to collaborate with team members across the company to achieve results.
Excellent organizational skills.
Strong drive and personal initiative.
Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred. Experience Typically, 5+ years of clinical research experience required, ideally in the areas of business development, study startup, and/or project management.
Prior management experience required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Prolonged periods of moving, standing, and walking.
Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
