FPCTA enriches the lives of children and families through theatre and arts education, encouraging students to become self-confident, academically successful, creative-thinking citizens who are more likely to invest in their communities as adults. FPCTA’s core programs include live children’s theatre productions, classes, camps, workshops, a fine arts preschool, and educational outreach through after school classes and touring programs. TEACHING ARTIST

Huntsville, AL

  • Fantasy Playhouse Children’s Theater & Academy (FPCTA), a leader in theatre for youth and theatre arts education in Alabama, seeks a new Full-Time Teaching Artist.

This position reports directly to the Education Director and works closely with full-time education staff. We are particularly interested in hearing from teachers with the following skills:

Musical Theatre Vocals Musical Theatre Dance/Choreography Directing:

Plays & Musicals Piano skills are a huge plus! Strong classroom management skills A passion for arts education Experience writing & developing curriculum Experience working with students ages 3-adult Private lesson experience such as private voice, dance, acting, etc. Strong time management skills

Desired Qualifications:
  • Must have experience teaching musical theatre skills. Vocal and piano skills are highly desired.
  • BA/BFA in Musical Theatre, Theatre, Education or related field desired but not required.
  • Candidates with 2+ years of experience as a lead teaching artist.
  • Must pass a background check.
  • Clean driving record.
  • Experience working with neurodivergent students.
  • Bilingual teaching artists are encouraged to apply.

We are looking for a Full-Time Teaching Artist who possesses the following traits: 1. A professional role model that fosters a positive environment that promotes FPCTA in all ways 2. Set a good example for students and other teaching artists (no texting, maintain alert energy, etc.) 3. The ability to develop and execute curriculum related to fundamental techniques pertaining to specialty/class alignments. 4. Teaches fundamental theatre/musical theatre techniques, warm-ups, and ensemble activities. 5. Prepares presentation script and arranges for copies. 6. Develops a presentation that highlights learned skills at the end of each week of camp or 12-week class semester. 7. Communication skills that translate to individuals in the community, on staff, and in the classroom. 8. Serves as a point of contact for families, including email correspondence, phone calls, and enacts approved protocol for emergencies. 9. Is a good steward of FPCTA and its equipment, including spaces, costumes, and props. 10. Has fantastic time management skills and the ability to prepare class materials ahead of time, teach students at dedicated times, and attend any mandatory teacher meetings or training. 11. Understand they report directly to the Education Director and/or Associate Education Director for approval of class curriculum and content.

Employment Status:

This position shall be classified as full time non-exempt for Fair Labor Standards Act purposes. Daytime, weekend, and evening hours may be required, depending on FPCTA’s programming calendar.
