Full Job Description Summary:

The String Teaching Artist’s main responsibility is to teach proper instrument technique to our Level 1 & Level 2 (beginner), Level 3 (intermediate), Level 4 (intermediate/advanced) violin and viola students. The Strings Teaching Artist will be teaching semi-private lessons weekly during the school year, but not on school holidays or snow days. This position would be joining a team of teaching artists whose passions lie in building a stronger framework for student lives through the study of music.

Responsibilities:

Teach after-school semi-private lessons weekly Consistently hold high standards for student musicians Teach proper instrument technique Prepare appropriate pieces for performance Keep a record of student progress and fill out mid-year evaluations Communicate student’s progress to parents/guardian Keep a log of instrument assignments Follow Upbeat’s curriculum Adhere to Upbeat’s attendance policy

Qualifications & Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in music or equivalent, prefer an emphasis on strings pedagogy/performance Intern requirement: Current student in college level program Desire to work within an El Sistema philosophy Ability to interact and communicate clearly with a variety of ages (3rd grade through 12th) Employment is contingent upon a background check
