Full Job Description Position Summary:

DMF Youth is seeking dynamic, energetic, and passionate teaching artists to join our team. While we use dance education to inspire creativity and movement in children, we are also open to non-dancers who are strong leaders and educators comfortable participating in the dance section of the class. If you are a dancer applying for this role, you must be proficient in hip hop, social dance, and urban dance styles. All summer and afterschool teaching artists must be comfortable leading Social Emotional Learning (SEL) activities designed to help students reach their full potential. Experience in educational settings and the ability to manage large groups of energetic children, including those with developmental and behavioral challenges, is essential. All programs are co-taught with two other teachers, so being a team player is a must! Summer Programs run during the day beginning July 7th and After School programs run Monday through Thursday from 2/2:30-5:30 or 6 pm. A minimum two-day commitment is required (either Mondays/Wednesdays or Tuesdays/Thursdays). Fridays may also be an option for those who commit to at least two other days.

Responsibilities:

Encourage active participation and collaboration among students. Foster students’ confidence, self-expression, and creativity. Assist in maintaining a positive and safe learning environment by supporting co-teachers in managing student behavior and resolving conflicts. Maintain open and effective communication with both students and other staff members, contributing to a positive team dynamic. Introduce participants to various dance styles and music, teaching basic techniques in each genre, particularly hip hop. Be a role model by leading with kindness, love, and inclusion.

Qualifications:

Nurturing, mature, responsible, patient, and a love of working with youth. Ability to commit to a full term, creating stability and consistency for participants. Minimum one year of experience working with school-age youth in a community-based educational setting (not just a dance studio). Our primary programs are for 1st-5th grade students. Knowledge of or willingness to learn educational standards, curriculum development, and classroom management practices. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, especially when working with children and families from diverse backgrounds. Strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask in a dynamic environment. Patience, creativity, and a positive attitude. Flexibility to adapt to different teaching and learning styles. Willingness to learn and implement DMF Youth methodologies. Strong interpersonal and group facilitation skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Bachelor’s or advance degrees preferred. Students still in college may apply and will be paid at a lower rate. Credit available. Spanish proficiency is a plus! Background in social work and/or psychology is a plus!

Program Summary:

DMF Youth is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that provides free afterschool and summer programming to underserved youth. DMF stands for Dance, Motivation, Fitness, and we believe in educating the whole child—physically, mentally, and emotionally. Our after-school program blends a motivational dance workout with a life skills development curriculum. Our goal is to empower kids and teens by building self-esteem, confidence, and self-worth, and nurturing health in all aspects of their lives. Each week, we use dance and exercises to explore topics like cooperation, attitude, teamwork, leadership, positive self-talk, self-control, body image, nutrition, and standing up to peer pressure. We apply the principles of Social and Emotional Learning (SEL), which is the process through which children and adults acquire and effectively apply the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.

Training:

Opportunities are available to train/work during our summer programs. Mandatory training is from September 2nd-23rd. Join us in making a difference in the lives of youth through dance and comprehensive personal development.
