Position Description The Wood Studio Manager/Woodworking position is responsible for facilitating a range of arts education programs including: classes, workshops, tours, demonstrations, and other activities as assigned. This position manages the day-to-day operations of such programs while continuously analyzing for improvement. Performs curriculum development, implementation, budgeting, and reporting tasks that are relevant to all educational programming. The manager should have experience with fine woodworking and/or teaching woodworking.

Essential Job Functions:

1. Facilitation of classroom spaces Coordinate with head of facilities to ensure satisfactory classroom environment Create and enforce health and safety best practices; lead the safety/orientation classes and test prospective open studio users. Maintain annual calendar with schedule of events, key dates and deadlines. Communicate and coordinate equipment, materials, and supply needs with teachers and studio managers in organizing classes. Identify problems, analyze solutions, and anticipate student and teacher needs. Enforce and ensure proper implementation of Programs Department and Studio-specific policies and procedures. Interview and assess potential instructors/partners. Train instructors to ensure compliance with all safety standards and studio policies. Ensure that the studio is safe for all users. 2. Manage equipment and materials in an effective and sustainable manner Repair, maintain, and calibrate all shop equipment. Address maintenance needs and requests made by instructors, monitors and/or students Supervise and approve ordering of all supplies and materials that are required for classes. Ensure adequate and appropriate material, supplies, tools and equipment to encourage students’ full participation in classes. Repair machinery in a timely manner as needed. 3. Process and progress student artwork Ensure a steady progression of student artwork toward completion as required by the studio’s needs in a timely manner Facilitate in the creation of artworks as requested for retail purposes Prepare and complete necessary tasks to facilitate student pickup of completed art from short term programming 4. Be an engaged team member to promote personal growth and development of best practices in the department Attend meetings, trainings and key program events as determined by program staff Respond to emails and approval requests in a timely manner. Maintain positive interactions in promotion and retention of GoggleWorks’ programs and activities Keep regular and consistent weekly hours and make the schedule available to all studio-users and administration. Actively engage in brainstorming and review exercises Competency Requirements (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities): Proficiency (either through education and/or experience) to engage students of all abilities Time management, organizational and planning skills Ability to elevate the performance of those around them Flexibility, resourcefulness, and problem solving as related to effective management Excellent written and oral skills Passion for GoggleWorks’ mission and community

Education and Experience/Woodworking Experience:

A Bachelor’s degree or similar work experience in a relative field with at least 2 years experience in non-profit work environment Ability to repair woodworking machinery and tools Managerial experience preferred Experience working with diverse and underserved audiences desired Familiarity with Google Drive / Google Docs, Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word) Experience with Word Press preferred Bilingual in Spanish preferred

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Required to travel to and from the GoggleWorks campus and/or various locations in the city. Occasionally required to lift heavy objects up to 50 lbs. Must pass a criminal background check prior to employment. Some weekends and weeknights required.
