Employees in this role will performs semi-skilled to skilled technical work in the setting up and taking down of equipment and supplies for the Town’s special events and activities. An employee in this class is responsible for working independently, in a team, or leading a team engaged in setting up and taking down events. Typical tasks include setting up tables, chairs, stages, traffic control devices, A/V equipment, etc. The ideal candidate will posses a high level of organizational skills as well as technical knowledge of the equipment being used is required. An employee in this class is assigned to work in special events but may be assigned to other facilities maintenance teams if needed. Work is generally performed under general supervision from the Lead Special Events Worker. Weekend work and/or the ability to work flexible schedules is required. This position is also a key member of the Adverse Weather Response team. Typical Tasks Determines needs for special events and obtains the required equipment and supplies; Operates sound and light equipment in support of Town events such as concerts, media conference or athletic events; Conducts inventories of equipment and supplies; Takes down equipment after events and cleans up; Sets up traffic pattern according to instructions from the police department; Prepares the work order paperwork for each event; Determines what is required for the event and assigns costs for personnel, supplies and equipment; Provides accurate work order data at the completion of each event; Assists other divisions as needed; Manages other personnel assisting with the event; Picks up trash and debris from grounds; Maintains equipment and performs preventative maintenance; Works with hazardous weather response team for snow, ice, and debris removal; Performs other job-related tasks as required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Considerable knowledge of the equipment and supplies needed for special events; Considerable knowledge of sound and lighting equipment; General knowledge of the appropriate safety precautions of the work; Ability to effectively operate sound and lighting equipment; Ability to organize work; Ability to work effectively in a team environment; Ability to work on a variety of work schedules; Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with staff and the general public; Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions; Ability to lead a work team. Minimum and Preferred Qualifications Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and considerable experience in special event support, especially in the area of sound and lighting, or related field. Physical Requirements Work in this class is medium to heavy work and may require exposure to various environmental conditions such as heat, cold, and rain. An employee must have the physical agility to move about freely including climbing stairs and ladders, walking for long periods and the endurance necessary to operate equipment. Moderate to heavy lifting is required in performing the work. Visual acuity is necessary to perform paperwork, operate equipment and make repairs. An employee must also be able to hear and talk. Special Requirements Possession of a valid Class “B” Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with an acceptable driving record, or the ability to obtain one within 6 months of employment. National Incident Management System (NIMS) ICS 100 and ICS 700 training/certification required (provided) Requires drug testing and background check (which may include criminal check, education verification and credit history review) prior to employment.
